1996: A bunch of renowned paddlers meet and dream of making truly innovative whitewater kayaksthat will allow them to do what others cannot... prototypes are made and a company is born!
1997: The ruling committee of the World Championship announces, two days before the event,that a new flat bottom of kayak gives an "unfair advantage" and thereby decides to reduce thescoring value of certain moves. This kayak, commercially known as the Glide, outrages other companies' sponsored athletes. The company has found its name - Riot, and from now on, all play boats are designed with a flat bottom!
1998: Riot releases the 007, a short kayak that combines unheard of features like the hydro-glidehull design system and sharp edges. New moves are performed and the world wide rodeo circuit istaken by storm. Riot paddlers clean up at almost every event in the world, and from now on, allplay boats are short!
1999: Riot begins the trend of developing whitewater kayaks for specific purposes, thereby extending the range of moves or runs that the limitations of design allow. Riot's elite squad inventsand names today's moves and achieves first runs on remote class V rivers all over the world. Fromnow on other manufacturers use these definitions and develop their kayaks around them.
2000: Riot launches the Disco, a balanced whitewater play boat. Due to innovative design featureslike the spin-disk the Disco not only outperforms other kayaks of the time, but has remained oneof the most popular kayaks of all time.
2001: Under the Sun® brand name, Riot enters the rotomolding, high-end recreational market withinnovative concepts like the W-shaped hull. Concepts so revolutionary that it has taken other companies until just recently to manufacture similar kayaks.
2002: Riot develops the Booster series, a new breed of river runner, slated for novice and intermediate whitewater paddlers. Its never seen before ease-of-use brings so many newcomers to the sport that the Booster becomes a household name! Riot is at the forefront of a new generation of elastomer outfitting that revolutionizes the way kayakers sit and interact with theirboat.
2003: Riot's Air receives Outside Magazine most prestigious "Gear of the Year" award. With its revolutionary design the Air becomes the template for other companies' future play boats. 2003 isa busy year! Riot also introduces a complete line of high performance composite sea-kayaks underthe Azul® brand name.
2004: Riot receives the "2003 Innovation Award" from the Canadian Plastics Industry for its Cross Max™ rotomolding technology. Riot also makes Canoe & Kayak Magazine's "Top 5Innovations of the Year" list with its own Bio-Fusion™ monocoque composite technology for seakayaks.
2005: Riot receives rave reviews from Paddler, Sea Kayaker, Adventure Kayak, and Canoe & Kayakmagazines for its series of Tour Lite kayaks. These sea kayaks were launched in 2004 and aremanufactured with Riot's own Cross Light™ thermoforming technologies.
2006: Paddler Magazine’s editor’s "Paddler's Pick" is awarded to Riot's Brittany for Best TouringKayak. Furthermore, Riot is the only brand in Outside Magazine's Gear of the Year issue to be featured in both the touring (Brittany) and whitewater (Astro) sections.

Technologies developed to enhance the purpose
Riot’s Cross Max™ process uses only the highest density metallocene grade of polyethylene, Cross Max™
produces stiffer, lighter, tougher and nicer kayaks! Furthermore, the process mixes design and precise
thickness monitoring to provide strength and rigidity where needed, while reducing the amount of polyethylene required in
non-stressed areas of the kayak. This optimization of the polyethylene’s repartition increases performance, maintains shape
and keeps the weight of our kayaks to a minimum.
Riot’s Cross Light™ kayaks combine the clean finish, rigidity and lightness of composite to the durability
and impact resistance of thermoplastic materials. A vacuum forming technology, Cross Light™ consists
in heating a sheet of ABS-acrylic to a point where it can be vacuumed around a hull or deck mold and then cooled down so
it takes the molds shape. The hull and deck parts are then trimmed and joined together with our unique leak-free seam.
A Cross Light™ kayak stands up to years of use on the water and maintains the same performance level as the day it first
touched water.
Riot’s Bio-Fusion™ composite process reduces waste by allowing for just the perfect amount of resin to
enter the mold and adequately impregnate the cut-to-shape glass fabric, as well as carbon reinforcements
strategically located in stress prone areas. Kevlar reinforcements are also present at the bow and stern to absorb impacts
and vibrations. Bio-Fusion™ produces light, stiff and strong high-quality kayaks, in an environmentally-friendly manner.
