“We will come back”By Frank Mavhungu

Time is running out for one of the Lim-popo-based National First Division (NFD) League sides, Magezi FC. After gaining promotion from the ABC Motsepe League at the end of last season, Magezi are still battling to find a winning combination in the NFD.

Magezi have man-aged to collect full points in only one of the eight matches they have played to date. The only time they

managed to register a victory was when they beat FC Cape Town 3-2 at the NNK Rugby Stadium in Cape Town on 10 September. They collected one point from a home match against Mbombela United and have conceded nine goals in their last two matches.

They were crushed 0-3 by fellow NFD rookies, Real Kings, at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban a fortnight ago. Their most recent embar-rassing defeat was a 1-6 drubbing at the hands of Royal Eagles at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg last Saturday, and they are languishing at the bot-tom of the 16-team log with only four points.

The team’s assis-tant coach, Mr Joel Mongalo, is optimistic

that Magezi will soon bounce back and move out of the relegation quagmire. When asked what he thought was a problem area in the team, Mongalo men-tioned that there was nothing wrong with the team, saying that "the players are taking too long to acclimatize with the heat in the NFD."

He appealed to the fans to continue rallying behind the team the way they did when Magezi were campaigning in the ABC Motsepe League last season. He assured the supporters that the team will not be relegated to the lower division at the end of the season. Magezi will fly to Cape Town tomorrow, where they will meet Milano Unit-ed at the Blue Downs Stadium.

Mr Joel Mongalo.

Vhembe transport month launchedBy Frank Mavhungu

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, in partnership with Musina Local Municipality and Sefake Highlanders Foot-ball Club, recently launched the provincial October Trans-port Month at Skoonplaas Stadium, Musina.

The objective of the cam-paign is to create road-safety awareness and improve the standard of law enforcement on the roads.

Cllr Tshitereke Matibe of the Vhembe District Municipality addressed the event and said

that transport month was a very important period on the calendar of the country. He added that October had been declared transport month by the South African government in 2005.

“This was after it was realized that our roads and transport facilities played an important role in the develop-ment agenda of our country. Our government invests mil-lions of rands annually to im-prove transport infrastructure and to provide a safe, reliable and affordable public trans-port system. This is because the transport sector is part of

our country’s nine-point plan to stimulate development and create jobs.”

Matibe further said that the Department of Transport and Community Safety had, over the years, consistently strength-ened education and awareness on matters of transport, road safety and traffic-law enforce-ment.

“Road awareness takes centre stage this month, although this should be our responsibility for the whole year. October provides us with a special op-portunity to double our efforts in making sure that our roads are safe at all times.”
