About Candace Czarny

CANDACE CZARNY, LEED AP, CFM, ASID, is the president of Wind and Water, a design firm with morethan 30 years experience in interior design, facilities and project management and feng shui. EVERYTHING IS ENERGY. Some energy can be seen, like the waves of heat rising from adesert highway in August. Some energy can be heard: Listen now for the sounds in yourbackground; are there birds? traffic noises? the hum of an appliance? Other energies arefelt (sensed)the warmth of your lover sneaking up behind you or the biting cold ofwind and sleet against your face.

What is the fragrance of a fresh young pine tree but its essence communicating with youon the air vibrating around you?

Feng shui is the art of choosing energy fieldsvibrationsto your benefit. You can dothis by capitalizing on what already exists or by modifying it to be more compatible withyour life and what you desire.

the deep-set and most problematic aspects of a property. Misinformation is destructive.

Many practitioners are uninformed about the how, the when, and the why of some ofthe most-essential cures. I have reworked numerous homes and offices that were previ-ouslyfeng shuied. While what has been done is not usually wrong, though it sometimes is,the elements that have been omitted are serious enough to make what has been done oflittle value.

Thats not to say a littlefeng shuiwill not go a long way. It will. Nevertheless, it is impor-tant to address the strongest elements near the beginning, those powerful outside forcesthat pummel us daily. Therefore, this home-study course is different from any you haveseen before. These differences are very important. They arent any harder to do, as youwill see. Core Competencies

The first volume has eight of the most-important and most-variedcures. In these first eight, Ive nested essential principles, language and

procedures for all 101 cures, so, even if the problem assessment re-veals you dont need all of the first eight on your property, please readthem carefully. It is essential, in order to reduce repetition throughoutthe rest of this home-study course, for you to be familiar with thebasics. Then when you move to other volumes, if theres somethingyou dont understand, you can refer back to these first eight forbackground information. These are your Core Competencies.

Priorit ies

The first eight cures, as explained above, were picked because of combined importanceand breadth of exposure. Subsequentvolumes are grouped by importance, according towhat Ive found through 15 years of practice to be most beneficial. That doesnt mean Iknow you will need each cure, but it does mean I know these are the most-life-changingfeatures to check!

So, after the introductory eight, the next section of the home-study course is about howyour outside environment affects you. That is the most-important area to address andhas the most-profound affect on your energy. From there we move inward, from exter-nal to internal, from property to the home itself. Inside the home, we go room by room.As forces affecting you and their cures, these volumes are, in this order

the basics and developing a common language and procedureyour propertyand the influences that come at you from the world at largeyour home and how you are perceived by others, including professionallyyour homes rooms and specific parts of your life, including the quality of your rest

and romance, health and money, friends and prosperity, home office, and having itall.

If you work from the front of the home-study course to the back, you can be assuredyoure doing the most important cure each day. However, if you believe you have aproblem that needs to be addressed sooner than it would come up in the daily chapters,by all means, fix it! After all, its your house and your energy that are being affected.

Time and Timing

Some cures may take more than 20 minutes because of your particularsituation. For example, for one person, fixing a squeaky door means ap-

plying a couple of drops of oil to its hinges. For another, it means hiring acarpenter to remove the door, realign the frame, install a new threshold,plane the door and re-hang it. You might be able to hire the carpenter inless than 20 minutes, but that cure might not be complete for a week. Whilethe door is being fixed, go to the next cure. Dont get bogged down or letanything stop you.

Ill do my best to keep it simple and brief, but there is no way I can possibly know whatyoure facing on your property without a personal consultation. So, do your best to keepmoving forward. A word is in order about where to use these cures. While Ive worked on multimillion-dollar corporate projects, there are fewer of those than there are householders desiring abetter life. Therefore, to simplify the references in this manual, when I use the wordhome, I mean, wherever you spend a significant portion of your time. Your office,your cubicle, your section of the factory, your truckyour space is always importantand the same principles always apply.

What and Why

Each chapter contains one ailment whenever it can be separated for a particular issue.Cures can be singular or multi-layered, depending upon the complexity of the problem.Each chapter begins with a description of the ailment, and then presents a snapshot ofwhat to do, a list of supplies, and step-by-step procedures for each cure. Illustrations areinserted where necessary.

While the cures mayseem only symbolic, remember symbols always represent somethingelse. Thats why theyre called symbols. In the matter offeng shui, that something elseis energy. Always!

Ive devised a before and after assessment to help you track your progress. Fill in thepre- and post-assessment forms as honestly as you can. In addition, there is a place foryou to fill in the date you complete each cure. This, too, will help in evaluating some-thing thats best valued subjectively, in your own life, the benefits that accrue to you.

Grab a pencilcolored pencils, if possibleand fill in your current satisfaction levels inthe chart on p. 14 before you start the cures. Balancing Two Energies

YOU CAN ENHANCE your life and business with simple Feng Shuitechniques known as cures.

As you already know, everything is energy. Please note: All energy isgood! There is no such thing as inherently bad energy, but there issoft energy and hard energy. Soft energy is called chi[chee] and hardenergy is called sha[shah]. Both types of energy are useful.

Life, our environments, everything in and around us depends upon both sha(hard) andchi (soft) energy. However, just like the water example above, the strength of the flowcan be a life or death matter.

Thats where feng shui curescome in. Life gets out of balance, especially at home and at work! Sometimes it never was in balance, and became more chaotic from there! Thecures youll learn in this home-study course instruct you how to modify energy fieldsand flow to restore wholeness, completeness and balance.

Just as easily as turning a spigot,you can make anything easier and more prosperous.

Words to K now

There arent a lot of mystical words to learn in order to use feng shui. But a few basicterms will make it simpler to talk about. Heres a short alphabetical list to get you startedand to provide a convenient reference as you progress.

Balance Most people think of balance as a euphoric state of reduced demands, forexample, no stress. More accurately, balance is equal pull by two opposing forces. For

example, a certain amount of tensionstressenables you to stand up or hold a book.Too little stresstoo much relaxationand you fall over or drop the book. Bagua(BAH-qwah) alt:Ba-Qua, baqua, Ba-Gua. An eight-sided shape that provides atemplate of energy locations. Each section of the Bagua corresponds to an area of your

lot, your building and each of your rooms. The sections are called stationsor life stations.The door represents where you normally enter the space, such as the front or back door.The door is your life work.

Procedure

If your fan is spinning counterclockwise (from a rooftop perspective), turn it off.

Position your step ladder just off-center of the fan, and step up so you can see thefans housing (the big part that holds the motor).

Typically there is a black slider switch, sometimes a stainless steel flip switch, or evena short pull-chain on the housing of the fan that will change the fans spin direction.Slide, flip or pull the switch, depending on its type.

Bi-directional spins are provided because some people believe one direc-tion serves better for cooling in warm weather and the other for moving warm air in cool weather. Our research has not proven that to be thecase, but moving the switch, regardless of season, comes down towhether youre more interested in peace and prosperity being in harmonywith nature can provide, or trying to save a few cents on your heatingbill; while the wrong-direction spin continues to wreak havoc with your

best-laid plans.

Step down off the ladder, turn the fan on, and confirm your flipping of the switchworked the way you thought it would!

Turn the fan off again.

Move your step-ladder out from center, till its just outside the perimeter of the fan,so that you can step up and see the tips of the fan blades.

With your red dots or red fingernail polish in hand, climb the ladder again. Use yourthumb to clear a spot of dust and place a small red dot at the tip of each fan blade.

(If your blades are clear, or for any other reason you prefer to place your dots closerto the motor housing, that will work. I find when I do this cure for clients, I canoften smear a little red nail polish atop each blade without even using a ladder.)

Even clockwise air movement moves all the energy in a room. Red dots will keep thespinning energy (even though it is spinning in the right direction) from disrupting theenergy in the room. This is especially important for ceiling fans in the bedroomwhere you do not want energystirredas you sleep.1

As you flip the directional switch on your fans, watch the energy movement change andaffirm aloud, Healing energy fills my room.

Maintenance

Occasionally grab your stepladder and make sure your dots are still on your fan blades,especially if you used paper self-adhesive dots and/or have a cleaning person whos verydiligent about wiping your fan blades!

Also, recheck fan direction any time you have an electrical outage or work done at yourhome that may involve turning off, then on again, electricity in the section of the housewhere your fans are located. Especially with remotely controlled fans, a reset might haveoccurred.
