Though we’re a little late, Happy New Year to all! What a way to start off a new year: revival at our new church, a long-awaited visit from Pastor Gary Sheets, and new life in both spiritual and physical ways! We are praising God for His grace and bounty! Keep reading for a story from Shaina about the baby girl in the left picture below. The farm is producing and multiplying like mad! The right picture below shows Kelsey and Josiah holding two of our 24 baby goats that have been born since December 1st! And there are still more on the way! We also have baby chicks hatching weekly (the count is up to over 20!) This is a huge breakthrough… the men we are training to care for the animals really are doing just that, and not only are the animals surviving, they are thriving!

Revival at Kat Kalen

“Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD from the heavens! Praise Him in the heights! Praise the LORD from the earth…for His name alone is exalted; His glory is above earth and heaven!” Psalm 148:1,7,13

Only those who have been in the midst of it can understand what a Haitian worship service is like. These people know how to worship with their whole beings, and they aren’t afraid or embarrassed to do it, either. A normal Sunday church service is one thing, but a revival is when they really let themselves go. As exhausting as it can be for those of us who are not quite so used to such fervor, it is a fulfilling kind of exhaustion. We give all the glory to God for how well the Kat Kalen Christmas/New Year Revival went. Decisions were made, there were baptisms, and the church was packed every night. What is most amazing about this is that the people of the church did not just sit and expect us to do all the inviting. They went door to door in the weeks before the revival telling everyone in the area and asking them to come. The result was wondrous. Only God can put such a fire in hearts and such a desire to share the truth. Pastor Gary Sheets from Springfield, IL preached every night, and everyone was so encouraged by his presence and words. The attached letter is from him, along with many of the pictures in this update. Thanks so much, Pastor Gary!!!

Thank you for your faithful partnership!

With Love, The Dorcés

Last year we were privileged to be able to show our people what a real American Thanksgiving meal is. It was such a blessing to see all of them sitting at one big table and waiting for us to serve them for a change. This year Pastor Gary Sheets provided us with the opportunity to have a real Christmas banquet! Though it was a lot of work, it was worth it. The Haitian people don’t really have any idea what Christmas even is, nor do they ever celebrate it in such a way. We were able to feed and celebrate with at least 75 people from our churches, school, and employees and their families. Everyone was reminded what the “season of giving” is all about. Our prayer, however, is that we would always be prepared to give and preach both in season and out of season (2 Timothy 4:2). May Christmas not be the only time of year that people see Jesus’ light shining through us.

When Dee and I rode the Rhino up the hill to meet Mdme. Beti, the woman from our Kat Kalen church who was guiding us on our adventure, I had no idea what was in store. Another lady from the church had recently had a baby, so we asked if we could visit her and present her with a layette set and other necessary items for a newborn and mother. The ladies were overjoyed at our request and couldn’t wait to make it happen. We set off on foot from the church and only had to walk about half a mile before arriving. But when Mdme. Beti stopped at a large, painted, cement house and said “Here we are!” I was shocked. This was one of the nicest houses I’d ever seen in the Haitian countryside. Then we followed her around the corner and behind that house, down a narrow dirt path towards what looked like a shed or an outhouse. Suddenly I realized that this was our destination, not the other, which now seemed even more like a mansion next to this hovel. I gingerly followed Dee past the thin sheet hanging as a curtain in the doorway and tried not to let my emotions show in my face. The family of five shared one bed. The baby, a girl, had three older brothers. Their mother’s joy at our visit was evident in the smile that never once left her face during our visit. She could not stop saying thank you. My heart was so full. What could I say when she told me she was making me her new daughter’s God-mother? And what is the name of this precious little girl? Mylove. What a perfect name, coming straight from God, for His beautiful little child.
