WELCOME SUMMER!
Summer Prayer
We are grateful for the summer months ahead, And grateful for the summer joys and the laughter of the children
in our families, our schools and our parishes. Bless our children during these next months;
may they grow in grace through play and picnics, camps and friendships, family visits and vacations.
We ask this in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
FROM THE PRINICPAL’S DESK
As we approach the end of this school year and reflect upon the past ten months, we are grateful for all the blessings we’ve experienced as a school community. We thank God for the time together as we celebrate our achievements, growth and continuous learning. May the Lord off us guidance and protect us in the coming summer months. With Christ at our side and the Holy Spirit in our hearts, we end successful year at St. Marguerite d’Youville Catholic Elementary School. We would like to congratulate our students who have grown academically, spiritually, physically and socially with your guidance and that of our most dedicated school staff working closely together along with our wonderful pastoral team Father Mark Gatto and Father Ross Campbell.

On behalf of the administration team, we would also like to thank our wonderful staff members who have given of themselves daily for the betterment of our students, parents and our community. Their dedication to our students never ceases to amaze us. Our staff would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our parents, Catholic School Council, Pastoral Team and volunteers including all of our wonderful Co-op students, Tutors, and volunteers who have played an integral part in the success of our students. Many of us are filled with mixed emotions, we are excited for the summer holidays and all the new learning it will bring. We are also filled with some sadness as we say good bye to some of our friends, staff and colleagues. At this time, we bid farewell to a number of other staff members.
We would like to wish Mrs. Krawesky God’s blessings as she retires from her noble vocation as an Educator. She has dedicated 34 years to the teaching profession and leaves us all with many happy memories! She told us she would come back to volunteer so perhaps we can get her to start a Creative Writing Club!?
We bid farewell to Ms. Alessi as her term at St. Marguerite comes to an end.
We also bid farewell to Mr. DiVitantonio who has transferred to St. Martin of Tours Catholic Elementary School.
Mme Quaglia will also be transferring to St. Lawrence Catholic Elementary School.
Mrs. Iavarone will be transferring to Annunciation of our Lord Catholic Elementary
Prayer to
St. Marguerite
d’Youville
Saint Marguerite
d'Youville,
we turn to you in
humble prayer
because your life
speaks to us
of goodness,
compassion and
love
in a world of
suffering, anguish
and pain.
It is not unlike the
world you knew
as you went about
doing good
with a great love
for the human
family,
with preference for
the poorest of all.
Your dream of
universal charity
became a mission
in the Church.
We give thanks to
you for the
inspiring vision
that is ours today
as your dream
lives on.
May we learn as
you did the life-
giving power of
love,
the profound peace
of unfailing trust,
the deep mystery
of suffering and
pain,
the comfort of
prayer.
Saint Marguerite,
teach us to listen,
In the silence of
our hearts,
to the God of
Mercy and
Compassion.
that we, too, may
be signs of God’s
love
to all people of our
world.
Amen.
St. Marguerite
d’Youville, Pray
for us.
Amen.

SCHOOL ORGANIZATION FOR 2019-20
We have been preparing class lists for September. To alleviate concerns, we want to share with you all the factors that are considered in placing your child in a particular grouping. We realize that we cannot make a decision for one child that may cause us to make an unfair or inequitable decision for other children. With this basic premise in place, we then also consider a number of other factors including:
Accommodations for our special needs students who are on a similar academic program and levels of programs
Students who are a positive support or influence for each other
Students who are a negative or antagonistic influence for each other
Number of classes per grade needed
Number of boys and girls Our Staff work collaboratively to determine which classroom placements will benefit the students and provide for the delivery of the best possible program.

RELIGIOUS FOCUS FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE
Be the Attitude of Jesus while living as Joyful Disciples!
.
“BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO ARE PERSECUTED FOR RIGTHEOUSNESS’ SAKE, FOR THEIRS IS THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN.” Jesus brought us the
Beatitudes, which speak of the grace of God and teach us how to love God and one another…Each Beatitude begins with the word ‘Blessed,’ which means ‘you are favoured by God.’ Each Beatitude ends with a promise of what we will inherit in heaven. The word ‘Beatitude’ means ‘abundant happiness.’ What a promise!”
(p.7) The Beatitudes for Children.
“BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO ARE PERSECUTED FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS’ SAKE, FOR THEIRS IS THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN,” will be the Beatitude introduced in June. Please review the Beatitudes (Matthew 5: 3-10) with your child. This Beatitude is introduced by reading “Betty Lou Blue” by Nancy
Crocker. Betty Lou learned she is right to follow the advice of her mother and treat others with kindness, even after they had mistreated her. Please contact the school to borrow a copy. This month we will encourage students to be righteous,
even if someone makes fun of them.
STUDENTS WILL BE TAUGHT, EVEN THOUGH I COULD BE PERSECUTED FOR BEING RIGHEOUS:
I will be the best person I can be
I will assist those who need help
I will want to do what is right
I will encourage others to do right
I will stand up for what is right
I will respond in respectful ways
I will put God first
I will live my life like Jesus
The Grandfather Teaching for June is Courage. It is represented by the Bear.
Courage is the ability to face danger, fear or changes with confidence and bravery.
The Bear represents courage because of strength and natural ability to overcome challenges. A mother bear, for example, will stand against a much larger, stronger male bear or other threat to protect her cubs. Just as the Bear hibernates during the winter and reawakens each spring, we too, need rest and rejuvenation. The Bear shows us how to live a balanced life, where there is a time to be playful and a time to be assertive and courageous. Indigenous people believe that the Bear calls them to awaken the potential within themselves and to stand up for what they believe in. http://www.abegweithealth.ca/carousel/carousel.asp

ICE CREAM AND CHIP SALES $1
Our Fun Fair was a great success and lots of fun. We have some ice cream sandwiches and bags of chips left from the fair; therefore, we will be selling ice cream and chips for a $1 until the stock is all sold.
ROAD AND STUDENT SAFETY
Parking
Thank you to the many parents and guardians who are respecting the school focus of ensuring students are able to enter the playground safely when dropping off and picking up children. For the most part drivers are being attentive, respectful and understanding. Please do not pull into the parking lot between 8:35-9:05 as many of our students are walking through to get to the playground.
Use of Community Crosswalks We work in partnership with community partners to keep our children safe. Recently, our crossing guard has made us aware of a dangerous practice among parents and their children while making their way to school. Those parents crossing their children in the middle of the street instead of walking the short distance to the crosswalk are encouraged to use the crosswalk. Please remember that it is important that we be safe and model safe practices for our children. Please cross where crosswalks are at all times. Please be sure to come to a complete stop at the Stop Signs. Please avoid pulling up in front of the school to drop your children off. Be sure to obey the NO PARKING OR NO STOPPING signs around the school.
Why not park a few blocks away and walk your children to school!
