LocationOn the Southern shore of Bracciano lake, approximately one hour

from Rome, this majestic castle is one of the most authentic feudal

residences in Europe, one of the most noteworthy examples of Re-

naissance military architecture in Italy. The medieval town located on

top of a hill is made of romantic and evocative lanes and alleys that

naturally take visitors to the impressive walls of the Castle that rises in

an elevated position and boasts amazing view of the lake. The castle

of course is the principal attraction of this town, its landmark but the

second is the beautiful Lake Bracciano, a circular lake set on a volca-

nic crater rich in wildlife but widely used also for swimming, sailing,

canoeing and windsurfing or just for a pleasant trip around.

Our rating & descriptionThe Castle was originally built for military purposes between 1470 and

1485, but thanks to the period furnishing and the perfectly preserved

frescoes it is surprisingly charming. The castle has 6 big towers, 5 of

them round and connected by a military corridor, while the 6th, partly

truncated, is the oldest tower existing in the 12th century AD. The en-

trance is at the base of the Eastern tower and after a pleasant walk

you can reach the most famous halls: the Pope’s Hall, King Umberto I

hall, the Hall of the Caesars, the Hall of Arms. A beautiful panoramic

walk starts from the loggia which joins the six towers of the Castle and

is the only point from where it is possible to admire the amazing Secret

Garden, a secluded oasis hidden from any other point in town.

Many amazing stories increase the fashion of this castle, like the sto-

ry of the Duke’s wife who was unfaithful to him and used to spend

the night with men that in the morning disappeared through a secret

opening in the floor, where they died plunging into a well full of blades

and lime. The well of course is still there and it is definitely an attrac-

tion!

WeddingsCatholic ceremonies can take place in the Church of Santo Stefano,

attached to the western wing of the castle, and connected through a

secret tunnel to it, was built in 1427.

Civil weddings can be celebrated in Rome or Bracciano. Symbolic

ceremonies can be organized on the grounds of the castle.

Depending on the final number of guests, Bride and Groom are usually

offered three settings for their events, for instance the Secret Garden

for the aperitifs, the Main Floor in the important halls of the castle for

dinner and Court of Honour or the Armerie for the cutting of the cake,

dancing and open bar.

Castle Chefs are experienced in both traditional Italian, and interna-

tional cuisine, able to satisfy any type of request, even the most de-

manding guests.
