The essentials of the journey are not only outward struggles against tremendous difficulties, but, more importantly, inward struggles leading to personal growth. His journey is the one of self-discovery and of combating his own arrogance and pride from his young rebellious heart. It makes sense to borrow The Odyssey from Greek mythology to describe the rebellious years young people usually go through.

sitcom “Growing Pains”?


This ABC family sitcom revolved around the Seaver family, who lived on Long Island in New York. Dr Seaver, a psychologist and his wife Maggie Seaver, a journalist, try to do their best raising their family and although their kids, Mike, Ben, Carol and Crissie, cause them endless problems, they manage to keep the family close together. As long as they got each other, nothing else matters.

It is not regarded as a comedy over there but a life lesson and a sociology course. Nowadays, It's hard enough to raise kids of Odyssey years, but when you have to cope with the kids, things tend to get out of hand, because young people are wandering and going through life, exploring and discovering themselves. They fall in and out of love; they try one career and then try another.



Their parents grow increasingly anxious, for they see their grown children’s transition phase between student life and adult life stretching five years, seven and beyond; they see their children delaying marriage, having children and permanent employment. To solve all these problems, both the parents and children should reflect on themselves and communicate with each other.
