Gender- Females• It more common for women to be

represented as more emotional and passive however we subverted this in the first scene of the opening sequence of Elimination. The female is the one who takes control of the situation and is aggressive. A low angle shot is used to show her dominance when her boyfriend pushes the man over. However at one point to boy she is with has his arm over her which could suggest that he is in more control and has more dominance over his girl friend.

Gender-Males • Males are usually represented as being

more aggressive. The males in the opening sequence are presented as being dominant and in control. The first male you see tells the person not on screen to "back off" which shows his dominance over the victim he also pushes him over. A common stereotype is that males have to be strong and this action demonstrates this. The killer is male. This is a common representation because men are usually portrayed as aggressive and strong. They are also shown to be dominant over women. The female who was once dominating becomes dominated when she gets killed.

Age

• The age group seen in the Elimination opening sequence are youths. We used youths to appeal to our target audience. Young people are portrayed by the media as being aggressive. This is shown by all three characters in the opening. The girl calls the boy “loser”, her boyfriend pushes over the other boy and the killer kills.

Teenage Girls• The teenage girl is shown to be

aggressive when she says back off. Her teenage boyfriend is shown as aggressive when he pushes over the first victim and then the killer is shown to be aggressive when he kills his first victim. We showed female teens as having an attitude and manipulating. The female states that she was "with Harry the whole time" which suggests that she has been leading the other boy on. This is a common representation of female teens that they always get their own way and they are manipulative. Elimination shows female teens as manipulative by showing her walking away with the man she wants.

Teenage Girls• We have subverted the victims

look. It is more common that the victim who are teenagers is blonde however ours has got purple hair. This is to portray her as being a teenage rebel. Rebels are supposed to be more dominant amongst youths because they usually are popular and idolized by other teens for having there own view. However this rebel gets killed so it is challenging the usually way a social group is presented.
