Thebest thing about farming together is being with eachother. The best advice for other couples thatfarm together is that there needs to be forgiveness. What is one quality you love about each other? Welove each other's sense of humor. We love to laugharound here. What are your plans for Valentines Day? We mightgo out to eat the day before Valentine's Day.How do you nd time for each other whilefarming? We have occasional date nights. Lastspring, we were able to get away to the Holstein salein Rochester,Minn.Tell us about your farm and plans for your dairythis year. Sco-Jo Dairy has 94 cows. We raise ourown heifers and farm 200 acres of alfalfa and corn.We have seven children. Five are still at home. Theyare a tremendous help on the farm. They also love tolaugh and keep us entertained. The plan for 2015 isstay the course.

Jerry and Lisa BurgSt. Martin, Minn.Stearns County60 cows How did you meet? Through mutual friends. What is the best thing about farming together? Being able to work together, wanting the same things and working toward the same goals. Having the ability to do things together or attend meetings together. When our kids were young, it was wonderful to be home together to raise them as well. Having someone to help make day-to-day decisions. What advice would you give other couples that farm together? Talk a lot so youre on the same page with each other. Be forgiving and try to do fun things together, as well as work. What is one quality you love about each other? Honesty and hard work. What are your plans for Valentines Day? We usually eat chocolate and go out for supper. How do you nd time for each other while farming? You have to make a point to do things that dont involve farming. Date nights or just lazy nights watching movies. Tell us about your farm and plans for your dairy this year. We have a 60-cow robotic dairy we are pretty happy with. We raise and sell serviceable-age bulls and keep all our replacement heifers. We have no big plans for our dairy this year. We are quite satis ed with things just the way they are. We are hoping the milk price doesnt drop too low.

Jon and Lisa ZweberElko New Market, Minn. Scott County 90 cowsHow did you meet? Jon and I met while we were both attending the University of Minnesota-Waseca. He was getting an animal science dairy degree and I was studying for a veterinary technician degree. We both were distance runners for the track and cross country teams. Luckily, Jon took three years to complete a two-year degree as he took time off to farm in between, otherwise we may have never met. What is the best thing about farming together? I would say one of the best thing about farming together is you get to spend more time together than most couples. As we run our own business together, we can be more exible and alter our schedules to t in some fun time during the day. We feel we were able to be more involved in our childrens lives as they were growing up since they could help us while we worked. At the end of the day, it is nice to see what you have accomplished together. What advice would you give other couples that farm together? Our best advice would be to make sure you occasionally take time together away from the farm. Plan things to do that you both enjoy. This helps you recharge and then you enjoy your job more. Try not to blame each other when things arent going well. This can happen easily, as even the best run farms have problems. Have a sense of humor. What is one quality you love about each other? It is really hard just to pick one quality for each other but we both came up with the same answer, that the other one is very caring. What are your plans for Valentines Day? Our plan for Valentines Day weekend is to visit our daughter, Sarah, and son-in-law, Nick, in Chicago. This wasnt necessarily planned for Valentines Day but just happened to be a free weekend for both of us. We will also go out on a day around the holiday for our annual Valentines dinner with our grazing group. How do you nd time for each other while farming? We usually milk together every morning and try to plan our day out at that time. Before breakfast, we have already spent four hours together, which is probably more than a lot of couples are able to spend together. On less busy days, we will take time to go for a bicycle ride in the summer months or spend time with our family.Tell us about your farm and plans for your dairy this year. Our dairy farm has been in our family since 1906. We have 250 acres and rent approximately another 60 acres. We transitioned our farm to organic in 2008 and started selling our milk to Organic Valley. Our herd is rotationally grazed on 140 acres of pasture and milked in a 12-unit swing parlor. During the winter, our cows are housed in a coverall building with sand bedded freestalls. Direct marketing of meat has become a large part of our business. We raise beef, pork, chicken and laying hens for eggs. These

products are sold directly from our farm. We have four children. Our oldest son, Tim, and his wife, Emily, and their three children farm with us full time. Sarah and her husband, Nick, live in Chicago. Steve lives in Livermore, Calif. and Samantha lives in Rochester, Minn. Our plans for this year are to try to grow more high quality forage and to maximize the potential of our pastures.

... reduces the potential for frozen teats.

I like Udder Comfort all year round, and especially in our Upper Midwest winters. It reduces the potential for frozen teats. Its more effective than any other product Ive tried, so it remains a big part of our herd health for over 7 years. says Todd Hendrickson.

He and Sue operate Roadside Dairy, home to 160 cows near Preston, Minnesota. Aside from running his farm with the help of key employee, Todd has served on the NE Iowa Dairy Foundation.

We love Udder Comfort for fresh cows, and we also use it on all of the udders when cows leave the parlor to reduce swelling and improve circulation during any stretch frigid cold in the winter.

Hendrickson was one of the fi rst in the U.S. to use Udder Comfort, and its an even bigger part of his routines today.

Producing a high quality product and seeing the progression of cow families from one generation to the next, thats what its all about, Todd relates.

Fresh cows always get Udder Comfort applied 2x/day for 5 days, or longer, to help them come into milk faster by removing swelling so they milk out better. They recover faster, and this routine has helped us progressively lower our herds SCC average to 70,000.
