with more than 1,100 homes and TheQuarry in North Naples with 900homes.

Hoge has owned property in The Har-borage since 1991.

"I like it because it is small," Hoge be-gan. “So whenever I want to ski, it iseasy because I can always use the lake."

Hoge enjoys the slalom courses andalso just skiing around the lake.

"I like to water ski here; it is freshwa-ter,” she said. “The water is very clean. Ilike it because we only have 90 housesin there, so it is a much smaller devel-opment. It is very unique. You cannotcompare that community to any com-munity in Southwest Florida becauseevery house here is on water.”

Everyone at The Harborage is eitheron the lake or a canal that has access tothe Gulf of Mexico.

“If this development was in Naples, itwould be million dollar properties,” shesaid.

Hoge also likes that every house isdifferent and unique.

“I really enjoy it here,” she said.Sandy Cooper also knows her com-

munity is unique“Our neighborhood is very special

because we have two large recreationallakes that total 106 acres,” she stated.“We also have excellent water quality inthe lakes and our board and residentswork to keep them pristine. All of ourhome sites are on waterfront with 75sites on lakes and 53 on canals that leadto Estero Bay and the Gulf.”

To the south, Miromar Lakes Beachand Golf Club is probably the bestknown lake community in the area. The700-acre Lake Como is used for waterskiing, kayaking, paddleboarding, pow-er boating, sailing, swimming and more.

Carol Watkins and Craig Woodsmoved there because of the lake.

"I grew up on lakes in the Midwest,”Carol Watkins said. "We have fivedaughters in their 20s that grew up thatway. My husband and I will be paddle-boarding every day. We just really enjoythe athletic opportunities on a lake likethat. It is the exact reason we chose

Miromar. We love boating, but didn’twant to boat on the Gulf because that isa very different type of boating.”

George Mato, vice president of sales, said the lake is a huge draw for resi-dents.

“This is a playground,” he said. “Thisis an entertainment lake. It is like livingon the bay, and you don’t have red tidehere.”

The lake was created from an areathat was mined about 40 years ago, sothe depth is 26 to 40 feet. Mato said alli-gators are not a problem because theydon’t like deep water. He says residentsoften swim laps in the lake.

“It is like a 700-acre swimming pool,”he described. “Everything centersaround the lake. It is our crown jewel. Idon’t think there is anything else like itin the state of Florida."

In Collier County, the only boatingrecreational lake in a community is atThe Quarry. Residents there water ski, kayak, paddleboard, and ride on jet skisand powerboats.

The Quarry has two lakes. The small-er unnamed lake is 90 acres and the oth-er, called Stone Lake, is 320 acres. StoneLake was created from the remnants ofa limestone quarry.

Bobbi and Gary Burnett enjoy boat-ing on their pontoon boat on the lake.

“Gary put the trolling motor on so hecan fish,” she said. “We bring the dogtoo. It’s very relaxing. It’s nice to go outon the water and watch sunset.”

Carol Lundgren said the lake was oneof the things that attracted her to TheQuarry.

“When we looked for a house, wecame to The Quarry and just fell in lovewith the surroundings,” she described.“It’s just so nice to live on the water andit is so nice and peaceful. If you live onthe beach, it is so crowded. They de-signed the community so you can seethe lake from the pool, clubhouse, andfitness center. I just enjoy when you takea walk you can stop and sit by the lakeand read. And the homes don’t back upto your neighbors. No matter what youare doing, you are looking at the lake. Ifyou are playing tennis, you are lookingat the lake. If you are playing pickleball, you are looking at the lake. If you areplaying bocce, you are looking at thelake.”
