THIS WEEK’S TOP STORIES…

In the garden this week...

This week the students have been creative with the tool shed. Year 8 painted old tins which the Year

9 students then drilled holes in the bottom and crushed terracotta pots to create drainage. Compost

and pansies were planted in pots which the students then attached to the shed. We're looking

forward to a colourful shed when the pansies flower!

After school golf club tee’s off for the third week this term The rain came in last minute this week and stopped us venturing onto the golf course but it certainly didn't dampen enthusiasm.

Our design, build, play session is popular with all of our groups. Each person gets 10 minutes to design and build an engaging game using any of our equipment. This game really brings out the creativity and imagination and the results are always fantastic. Pat, Dan, Jake H and Josh B came up with some cracking games that each had a focus on direction, under or over options, speed control and scoring elements. 10/10 for effort guys.

Well done to Dan this week for winning the Golden Ball for coming up with a great simple game that involved landing the golf ball in 5 different hoops, well done Dan!!

I look forward to next week and fingers crossed the weather will be dry and we can hit the fairways at Hollingbury.

Physical Education Department

This week the teams were announced for the Parallel Youth Games and news was shared that the pool would be ready when we

return from the half term break. Although we have had lots of rain this week, students have been able to work on their striking and

fielding skills in indoor adapted lessons. There were some impressive teamwork and determination from the Year 5,6,7 & 8’s when

they played some adapted rounders. Students worked on their Learning Profile, where they demonstrated that they could be

gracious in defeat; this is a real achievement for Junior School who are just beginning to learn how to manage their emotions.

Sharing Protective Behaviours throughout the school community

This week Miss Lacey and students who are “Protective Behaviours Ambassadors” have been introducing others to the main themes

and strategies:

● We all have the right to feel safe all of the time

● We can talk with someone about anything

Exam Invigilators

On Monday Miss Lacey, Jake H, Lewis, Conor and Freddie W trained 11 Exam Invigilators. We explored tricky scenarios that may occur when a student is sitting an exam and discussed different techniques that may help.

One participant commented “May I say how excellent this training was, so very interesting and informative for our role. Thank you so much.”

Juniors

On Wednesday Conor and Lewis assisted Miss Lacey with the juniors. They explored three key areas:

1. Safety Scale 2. Early Warning Signs 3. Networks of Support.

Participating student Emma commented, “This lesson was great because it is good to learn new techniques in case anything ever happens” and Rhys GB went on to say, “Now I know how to call Childline. Thanks!”

Protective Behaviour Ambassadors

“Teaching others is a great way to embed Protective Behaviour learning as well as increasing the student’s self-confidence and communication skills. I am so proud of all the students who have really stepped up to the responsibility” Miss Lacey.

“Emma is a very fun teacher to work with. We help her with her Protective Behaviours’ course, this week we have been with the juniors and exam invigilators. It is nice working with different ages. We are learning just as much as they do and that it is a very hard job to be a teacher!” Conor and Lewis.
