Philip Hess, bass baritone from Chappaqua, NY, graduated from Princeton University with
d ~ r e e in Phychology. He has been studying voice for one year and will be auditioning this-. for Master's programs in vocal performance. Mr. Hess was recently seen as Luther Billis
.... ~ { C ' s production of South Pacific.
Ian Derrer, baritone, is a North Carolina native and is currently a senior voice performance
major at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
Wayne Davis, tenor from Chicago, received his Master of Music in Voice from Northwestern
University in 1992. Since then, he has performed both in opera and oratorio. His next engag
ment is with the Bowen Park Opera Company, as Alfred in Die Fledermaus.
Graham Stuart, of Greenville, SC, is a graduate of Vanderbilt UniverSity. He is currently
employed as scenic carpenter and stage hand at the Tennessee Repertory Theatre.
BenneHSummey, baritone, is a senior at Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. After receivinghis Bachelor's degree, he plans to pursue graduate studies.
Jennifer Royall, soprano, received her Bachelor of Music from Northwestern University in
1993. She has sung with the chorus of the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Ravinia Festival
and will begin a Master's degree at the University of Maryland, College Park this fall.
Melissa Sumner, soprano, is from Christianburg.. VA. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor
degree at Emory and Henry College.
A. J. Wester, mezzo soprano, from Chicago recently graduated with a degree in vocal perfor-mance from Roosevelt University. She also completed studies in improvisation at the Player

this spring. A veleran of opera and musicallhcaler, he haskeen feaLured in two recordings wiLh the Cincinnati Pops
Orchestra. David had the lead role of Danila in BMC', 1995production of "The Merry Widow."

Founded in 1936, the Music Center has offered sununer
music teaming and perfonning OPP011wlities over the last six
decades. Brevard alwnni can be found in eVCIY major school
ofmusic, orchcsb'a and opera company in America.
The Brevard Music Festival goes on from late-Jwlc t1uough
early-August, presenting a varied pClfomlrulce slate that
ranges from grand opera and symphony to chamber music andsolo recitals . Students and ru1istlfacuity comprise the
ensembles, sharing the stage with vaunted guest artists such as
Marilyn Home, the Canadian Brass, Victor Borge and Van
Clibwll.
BMC's festival is the direct result of its educational program.
Its five orchestras, two bands, two choruses, opera workshop,
keyboard program, chamber music series and student recitalsare all geared toward providing aspiring young musicians vital
performance experience.
Members of the NFMC have supported Brevard's mission in
many ways, including scholarships and contributions for
physical plant needs. The SoutheasteIn Region holds its
annual conclave at the Music Center, celebrating the special
relationship that bonds these two nationally respected music
institutions.
