The AHS Patriots ran up an impressive ove r· all record of 11-7 (6-7 in the tough Valle District) . This season was highlighted b fou r big wins by the rugged Patriots . Th fi rst was a ve ry impressive 71-53 openin _ season win over a veteran Orange Horne~
team. The Patriots then proceeded to rou· the Lane Black Knights, runners up in th Capital District, twice. AHS simply out· classed Lane in both games, as the scores o· 58-40 in the first game and 66-4 7 in the rematch indicate. In probably the finest game of the season, the Albemarle "five" sen ~ R.E. Lee down to their only defeat in fou rteen district games. The Patriots jumped ot· to a quick lead and never relinquished it a_ the game ended in a 64-56 win. This fin a home game was highlighted by the "Bieache Bums" who went wild al l night and, ir bedlam, "busted" the bleachers.
Congratulations to AI Crenshaw fo making First Team, All District and to Mik Harrison for making Second Team, All District.

What do you see down there, John?
The Patriot track team completed another season
in traditional style . They were undefeated in dual
meets (5-0) and won the Albemarle Relays . The
record did not suffer until the end of the season
when the "Patriots" dropped to an unprecedented
third in the Valley District meet .
The success of any season can be measured in
terms of records set. Phil McGuire, a junior, set a
new record in the high jump with a 6' 4 Y2 ". Lance
Van de Castle set a record in the discus with a
throw of 155' 1 Y2" and Alan Bragg set a new
century mark with a 9 .9 clocking.
This season brings an end to the Valley District .
In the 10 years Albemarle has been District
champion seven times and runner-up twice .
Not your record of 44' 6", George, but close.

Coaches: Mr. Arbaugh, Mr . Dofflemyer.
The A.H .S. Baseball team completed a h ighly
successful season under their new coach Larry
Dofflemyer. The Patriots swept t hrough the regu
lar season with a 14-1 mark (12-0 in the district).
The only blemish was a defeat at the hands of
F.U.M .A. The victories included two shutout wins
over Lane, the Capitol District Champions. Steve
Clark led the heavy hitting Patriots with an
average close to .400 and was followed by Bruce
Thomas, Larry Kent, and Mike Harrison, all with
averages over .300. Glen Easter led the team in
homeruns, hitting two. The pitching was shared
by Tommy Toms and Wayne Brown (8-1 and 7-1 ),
respectively . The Patriots, however lost the
championship game in the Valley District
Tournament . Congratulations to Steve Clark,
Bruce Thomas, Rex Layman, and Tommy Toms
for making the ALL-DISTRICT Team .
