Abstract
The War of Resistance against Japan breaking out in 1937 was not
only the most
horrendous, heroic and greatest war against aggression in Chinese
history, but also a
chapter of historical facts on the battlefield in Asia during World
War II. The movie
data provide rich audiovisual experiences to us looking at
historical context. And the
implications and impact of political propaganda or social
enlightenment in the stories
told by movies are worthy of our careful reflection and discussion.
In this paper, the
anti-Japanese war movies made in the 1970s, Everlasting Glory,
Eight Hundred
Heroes, and Heroes of Eastern Skies, are the research subjects for
exploring the three
dimensions of "general image," "narrative space", and "thinking of
theme", in the
hope to further understand the anti-Japanese war movies through
this research.
This paper is divided into six chapters. The first chapter,
"Introduction",
describes the motivation and purpose, the scope of this study, and
in which a literature
review is conducted.
Chapter II deals with the contents of the three selected movies,
depicting the
historical facts of anti-Japanese war, the history of movies, and
discussion about the
directors, in order to compare the differences between history and
the movie, and
reflect whether there are problems in the performance devices for
the movies.
In Chapter III, Chapter IV, Chapter V, the "general image",
"narrative space" and
"thinking of theme" in the three research subjects, Everlasting
Glory, Eight Hundred
Heroes, and Heroes of Eastern Skies, are analyzed respectively, to
explore whether
the personalities of characters and the development of plots are
integrated with each
other, whether the texts can highlight the environment in terms of
composition, as
well as the various themes in the texts.
Chapter VI, "Conclusions", concludes the similarities and
differences among the
three movies, shows the multi-images of the female and Japanese in
the movies,
explores the death issue from the perspective of the war, and
finally explains the study
limitations and the future developing direction of this
issue.
