Counci I Vern Haik of Chugiak was el­ected the new President of the ~laska Sportsmenls Coun-

'cil during'the two day con­vention of that group last \'leek end in Palmer.

This organization, which was formed in Palmer in 1953, is composed of representatives of the many Sportsmen ' s and conservation minded grou~s within the state and is pri­marily dedicated to the con­servation of our wildlife and natural resources.

The convention was "kicked­off" Friday night with a din­ner at the Grange Hall in Pal­mer.

The guests enjoyed a delic­ious home- cooked dinner, cat­ered by the ladies of the Gran­ge and afterl>'ard listened to the down-to 'earth humor of the principal speruter, Gerrit "Heinieft! Snider, of ~·Jasi lla .

In the two days follo,-.ring, in addition to electing their officers for the f~llmiing year, the group discussed problems of conservation and prepared resolutions to be presented to the state legislature.
