WE GATHER IN GOD’S PRESENCE

For thousands of years, Indigenous people have walked on this land. We are gathered on the traditional territory of the Anishinabek and Haudenosaunee Confederacy and acknowledge their stewardship of this land throughout the ages. We also acknowledge with respect the history, spirituality, and culture of the peoples with whom Treaty 29 was signed and this territory wherein our church resides.

This year, The Royal Canadian Legion will assist in commemorating this historical 100th centenary, through the introduction of a Bells of Peace Initiative to honour through Remembrance, the Armistice of 1918. The general concept derives from the use of bells as a celebratory announcement that the war had ended. This was common at the end of both WW1 and WW11. The Legion's intent is to have every bell in every community across Canada ring in unison or independently (within each community) 100 times at sunset on November 11th, 2018 to signify the 100th anniversary of the WW1 Armistice. The time Stratford is ringing bells will be 5:03. Grab a bell and ring it!

Thank you to Maddie and Mikayla Woods with the 4 year olds - grade 3 and Bill and Marion Douglas with the grade 4 - 8 in the sunday school this morning.

The Outreach + Congregational Life teams say.......

.. .... for your generous support at last Sunday’s “Spud-raiser” Baked Potato Lunch which was enjoyed by 110 people. A total of $ 662 was raised and will be used to support the church’s General Fund. Also, many thanks to those who donated such delicious toppings, and helped with the preparations and clean-up.

The FOOD SHELF is open every Friday 9:30-11:00. Your generosity makes a difference in the lives of many in Stratford. The clients are very appreciative of the donations that our church congregation supports in food donations and cash donations (allowing our

shoppers to buy fresh produce).

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie,

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

By John McCrae, 1915
