From the desk of the Administrator Perhaps an important part of our do-over is to talk about our elementary schools. Yes, that is correct to say “our” and the plural “schools”. See, the Diocese is moving into a regionalization of schools supported by all the parishes in the region. So, there will be no more “parish” schools in the future. For our area, the regionalization of schools began about three years ago with the formation of the North Hills Regional Catholic Elementary Schools (NHRCES). It is currently composed of five different schools: Blessed Francis Seelos Academy, Wexford; Blessed Trinity Academy, Glenshaw; Christ the Di-vine Teacher Catholic Academy, Aspinwall; Holy Cross Academy, Ross Township; and Saint James School, Sewickley. One additional school had been a part of our region and is now no longer. Northside As-sumption Catholic Academy recently became part of the “Pittsburgh City Catholic Elementary Schools, Inc.” which is related to the Extra Mile Foundation who “helps urban children and their families meet the challenge of obtaining a values-based, quality educa-tion from pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade” (accessed 7/28/2019). The Board for NHRCES was reorganized this spring due to the establishment of the parish group-ings. The Board is composed of both Priests and lay-persons. I believe it’s to be a 50/50 split. Two Priests needed to be elected. I was one of the Priests elected to the Board. I am glad to serve in that capacity. In support of Catholic education, each parish is as-sessed a school subsidy. Traditionally, parishes with-out a school contribute an amount based on 10% of the parish’s adjusted income. What that really means is that for each dollar raised, an additional $0.10 must be raised to pay the subsidy. Parishes with schools were contributing at a much higher rate, sometimes up to 25% of their budget. Our subsidies for the coming year are as follows: ASP - $22,300.00; HSP - $20,300; and SAP - $15,000.00. Due to SBP having been a founda-tional partner to Blessed Trinity, its subsidy is quite a bit higher, $235,000.00. What all this means is that we have to work hard to support Catholic education in our region. Scholarships and grants are available to help send your child to a Catholic School as enrollment helps with the school budget. When there are fundraisers for our schools and region, please participate. Your continued financial support of our parishes helps us to meet these subsidy obligations. Working together we can assure Catholic education for many generations to come. See you in Church! Fr. Jim Gretz

Faith and Hope Faith and hope are closely united in today’s read-ings. The Israelites knew when the Passover was coming, and so were not in fear, but had faith and courage, “putting into effect with one accord the divine institu-tion.” In this we can see a foretelling of the Eucharist that we celebrate according to Christ’s command, “Do this in memory of me.” We see that Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, and Jacob died in faith, although they did not see fulfillment of the prom-ise. We live in hope that our faith will be fulfilled every time we celebrate this sacrament. We too are not to be afraid, but to have hope that our faith will be fulfilled in the coming of Christ. Mass of Healing A Mass of Healing will be celebrated on August 15 at 6:00 PM at Saint Paul Cathedral. This Mass brings to a conclusion the year of prayer and fasting that Bishop David Zubik asked all clergy to engage in for the healing of victims of child sexual abuse. Bishop Zubik is unable to come to the cathedral while he recuperates from back surgery, so Bishop William Waltersheid, the auxiliary bishop of the diocese, will preside. All clergy are invited to participate in the Mass, and everyone is welcome to attend. Blessed Trinity Academy News Blessed Trinity Academy is selling raffle tickets coinciding with the 2019 NFL season. Every week there are 4 chances to win based on teams’ weekly scores, with large cash prizes at the end of the season. Overall prizes equal $21,800! Tickets are $20 each. Please contact Bridgette Long at 814-242-6078 or [email protected] with questions or if you would like to purchase tickets. What is Calix? Calix is a Catholic support for those who are suffering from addiction! It does not replace AA or NA. Rather, it provides another level of support for those who are Catholic; to bring their faith into their journey of recovery. We will begin regular Calix meetings on August 13 with a Mass at 7:00 PM in Madonna of Jerusalem Church followed by a reception at the John Paul I Center. For local information, contact Addiction Recovery Ministry at 412-218-5410.
