GiULIA for New Techniques in Neonatal Ventilation decreasing work of breathing and thoracoabdominal asynchrony
by Flow Synchronized NIPPV
Now with new superlight Sync Flow Cannula [1]
At the GINEVRI stand you will meet GiULIA, the only ventilator capable of performing Flow-Synchronized Nasal Intermittent Positive Pressure Ventilation (Flow-SNIPPV). You can now apply this technique using the new, light, comfortable and easy to set up “Sync Flow Cannula” [1].
With GiULIA it is possible to shift rapidly from the most effective and safest mode of conventional triggered invasive ventilation, Volume Targeted Ventilation (VTV), to non-invasive techniques such as Flow-SNIPPV or the simpler Heated Humidified High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HHHFNC).
Among the different non-invasive techniques, several clinical trials favor nasal synchronized IPPV (SNIPPV), probably because delivering inspiratory pressure immediately after the start of a respiratory effort, when the glottis is open, allows pressure to be transmitted effectively to the lungs thus sustaining the spontaneous effort of the patient. At GINEVRI we have developed a revolutionary flow-sensor to carry out this technique in the most physiologic and effective way.
Synchronous mechanical breaths may reduce inspiratory effort, increase ventilation, reduce breathing frequency, reduce thoraco-abdominal asynchrony and decrease WOB [2,3]. Evidence from clinical trials indicates NSIPPV is more effective than NCPAP in improving the success rate of extubation, in reducing the need for intubation in the acute phase of RDS after surfactant [3,4], and in decreasing the incidence of apneas and bradycardias [4].

ORGANIZING INSTITUTION The mission of UENPS is to improve healthcare in the neonatal and perinatal medicine in the European countries. Main goals of UENPS are to improve quality in perinatal and neonatal care by integrating, coordinating and adding national and scientific societies’ efforts, to promote the knowledge of the perinatal indicators and to develop
recommendations, guidelines, training of the healthcare providers and any other tool to achieve the best healthcare for every newborn and surveillance of neonatal rights wherever they are born. Following on UENPS’ mission, a division named “UENPS Hall of Knowledge” has been established in 2019. Its aim is to gather all experiences and cultural activities developed throughout the years and offer a wider educational approach to the hot topics of neonatology.
