Macy Rabbit Booties are adorable little animal-friend booties that will delight your baby girl or boy. Because they use
soft fabrics such as velvet and felt as their main material, these baby booties are appropriate to your baby’s sensitive
skin; they are also comfortable and highly convenient to wear, as they are easy to slip on and off. Macy Rabbit Booties
match with casual wear and are a popular item among expecting parents or parents with new babies. These booties are
perfect as a warm alternative to socks for all babies, and are an excellent idea for a handmade present. Designer’s
Review
Tweaking Option If you want the shoes to have a tighter fit, fold the upper in half widthwise and pin along the heel on a slight angle, starting from the bottom heel corner and ending at about 1/4" from the heel seam at the top (or at the desired spot).
Then, sew along this angled line, rather than sewing along the given heel seam. Repeat this process for the
other upper.
2
Cut out the Fabric
Draw the patterns directly onto the wrong side of a single layer of fabric. Because there is a right and left
shoe you will need to reverse the sole and upper side pattern when tracing. Also reverse the ear pattern
when tracing. Make sure the right and left pieces are separated to avoid confusion when attaching the
soles. Cut out the exterior and lining. Cut out either the rabbit or cat toe piece. Cut the ear pieces
accordingly. Only cut out the tail piece if you are making the rabbit shoes.

Sew the Upper
Place the wrong side of the inner ear pieces on right side of the outer ear pieces and sew along the edge,
see Picture 1. Sew all four ears. Baste two assembled ear pieces to the exterior upper toe piece with right
sides together as indicated on the pattern, see Picture 2. Pin and sew an exterior upper side piece to the
exterior upper toe piece with right sides together, aligning the straight edges, see Picture 3. Backstitch on
both ends. Sew the other exterior upper side piece to the upper toe in the same manner. From the right
side, the result should look like Picture 4. Repeat this process for the other bootie.

Fold the exterior upper piece in half lengthwise with right sides together. Pin and sew the heel,
backstitching on both ends, see Picture 5. Open the heel seam. Sew the lining uppers and other exterior
upper piece in the same manner.
Flip the lining upper right side out and place the exterior upper on it with right sides together, see Picture 6.
Pin and sew the two pieces together by sewing around the center hole, backstitching on the start and end
points, see Picture 7. Clip the curved seam. Turn the upper piece right side out. Sew the other upper in the
same manner.
Assemble the Upper and Sole Lining
Place the lining upper piece on the lining sole with right sides together, matching their center points. Pin
the toe and heel, then pin around the rest of the sole, clipping the heel seam as needed.

result will look like Picture 9. Repeat for the other
shoe.

Attach the Exterior Sole Piece
Place the exterior sole piece on the exterior upper with right sides together, matching their center points.
Pin the toe and heel first, see Picture 10. Then pin around the rest of the sole, clipping the heel as needed.
Sew the sole, backstitching on both ends. Leave a 2” gap for turning, see Picture 11. Clip the seams if
necessary. Turn the shoe right side out; pin and stitch the opening closed. Repeat for the other shoe.

Make the tail
Running stitch along the edge of the circular tail piece, see Picture 12. Do not backstitch. Place some
polyester fiberfill on the wrong side of the tail piece, see Picture 13. Pull the thread; sew back and forth and
tie the thread, see Picture 14. Attach the tail to the heel tightly, see Picture 15. Repeat for the other side.

Sew the Eyes and Nose
To draw the eyes and nose on the fabric, cut the markings for the eyes and nose on the pattern. Draw
through the holes using chalk pencil. Using 2 strands of embroidery floss, sew the eyes and nose.
*Because our patterns are on PDF files, the pages may be scaled prior to printing, depending on the
printer and print driver. To ensure that the shoes pattern prints in the correct size, set the margins on
zero before printing the pattern. To do so, select “None” from the “Page Scaling” drop-down list in Acrobat
or Reader’s Print dialog box (Hanyaloglu, 2007).
**The size of the shoes may also be affected by the thickness of your interfacing and/or fabric.
***The length of the shoes may slightly differ according to the shoes’ shape
****The pattern sizes should match the following measurements upon printing:
Heel to Toe Length (in inches)
(No seam included)
