News from 4S What a super year we have had so far in 4S! Here is a snapshot of what we have been up to….We all enjoyed sports day and cross-country, where all our true colours came out! It was great having swimming lessons in Term 1 to cool us down on those hot summer days! We also had an amazing time doing the Colour Run at our school to end off a busy Term 2. In Science, we have learnt about plants, life cycles, erosion, materials and this term we are looking forward to learning about natural materials. We have made up our own dances and poems, written stories, as well as designing posters and making our very own shop in our classroom. We had a fabulous time on Year 4 camp where we participated in many activities that were quite challenging and came home exhausted after 3 days of non-stop action! 4S loved dressing up as our favourite book character for Book Week.

We have done cartooning, made cards, drawn convict ships and painted beautiful pictures in Art and did some online blogging, Excel and Scratch during ICT lessons. During LOTE, we made origami and learnt more about Japan and its people. From singing new songs and playing new instruments in Music, to learning new games in PE, we have had a brilliant time! The most fun we have as a class is when we have Funday Friday on the last Friday of every month. We play team games, do Just Dance, trivia quizzes and bring our own games in from home to play with our friends. Last term, we had an Amazing Race, where we formed teams and completed different tasks around the school as a challenge, linking in with what we were learning about in English…Quest Stories! We had a ball! We’ve had some great achievements in our talented class and their enthusiasm to participate and represent our school does not go unnoticed.,,.School and District team sports, Coolum AllStarz Dance Team, Coolum’s Got Talent, Senior Voices/Eisteddfod and Instrumental Music. As well as all of this, we kept on top of our reading, by entering the Premier’s Reading Challenge and had a fun time when we had Crazy Hair and Long Socks Day!

We loved learning about Rowan of Rin in English and converted our classroom into a series of mountainous challenges and exciting displays, as we learnt more about the thrilling book! This term, we look forward to learning more about the world of advertising. Everyone in 4S cannot wait until Coolum Carnival next week and are really looking forward to performing their Parade Item for you, advertising this fun-filled exciting event for all the family! Wow, what a busy but fun year it’s been already! Well done 4S, keep up the great work! Things we love about Coolum Carnival…….

Music News Coolum HeARTs ‘Sing Out!’ - Last Sunday, 25 of our fabulous Senior Music students from Senior Voices and our Rock Bands, performed at a very special community event – Coolum HeARTs ‘Sing Out’ for Mental Health. All of our students did an outstanding job, singing and playing with so much enthusiasm and enjoyment that the audience could not help but be wowed by their talent. Everyone could not help but join in and were rockin’ along and applauding after every song. However, perhaps something that the students, their parents, and our school community can be even more proud of, was an email that the organisers sent to Mrs Mackay. It read: “To your wonderful students who performed on the day - they were not only magnificent when performing but what was even better was their support for each other and the support they showed for our special Coolum HeARTS members. They embraced what we are...Inclusive. Please pass this onto their proud parents”. Bravo Coolum State School Musicians – we are all so proud! (Roz Mackay) Beginner Music Camp This week, 23 beginner music students attended the ‘Noosa Cluster Beginner Music Camp’. They joined with almost 50 other students from neighbouring schools including Peregian Springs, Sunshine Beach, Tewantin, Cooroy and Eumundi for a 3-day intensive music camp. The students travelled to Mapleton and spent up to 5 hours each day rehearsing new repertoire, strengthening their techniques and talents, and developing teamwork skills, with the goal of performing a showcase concert for their families on the final evening. They certainly reached that goal! Our Brass, Woodwind, Percussion students performed in a combined band of 50 students. Their performance repertoire clearly demonstrated just how far their music reading abilities, individual skill level, and cohesion as a concert band had come in three days. The combined band gave an amazing performance at the concert that resulted in thunderous applause from the audience! In addition, the Strings Ensemble featured 22 players and their performance pieces highlighted the increase in their techniques of tuning, timing, and togetherness to produce a wonderful orchestral sound that gave the audience goosebumps! A huge thank you and congratulations must go to our Instrumental Music Teachers Mrs Guest and

Mrs Pearson, for their tireless effort in ensuring our Music Camp was an unforgettable and amazing experience had by all - especially for one little triangle soloist ;) (Roz Mackay)
