    Dear Mr. Strong:

    With cooperation ofTHE BROOKINGS INSTITUTION

    722 JACKSON PLACE, N. W.WASHINGTON 6, D. C.

    January 10, 1955

In tracking down collections of papers left by men connectedwith the early days of the Federal Reserve System, my attention wascalled to those of Mr. Fred I, Kent, Deputy Governor of the FederalReserve Bank of New lork from 1917 to 1918.

As you know, Mr. Kent died in October, 1954* I am told byhis former secretary that when the papers in his office were gone over,a good deal of correspondence between Mr. Fred I. Kent and your fatherwas discovered. Mr. Warner Kent is said to have sent this material toyou.

This information came, as you can see, around two corners, and may not be accurate. On the other hand, if it is and you have agroup of letters which passed between the two men, we would be veryglad to add them to your father1s papers with which Dr. Lester Chand-ler of Princeton is working. Dr. Chandler has already found compli-mentary references to Mr. Kent, so I judge that the two men esteemedeach other. We are eager to add the Kent material if you have it athand.

    sincerely yours,

    Mildred Adams
