Don’t leave town till you’veseen the country (hall)

PETE BRYANT PHOTOPARAWERA HALL as it looks these days.

While Sharon Jones wasworking in New Plymouth forNZ Post recently, she visitedan exhibition by Fiona Jack atthe Govett-Brewster Art Gal-lery entitled ‘Living Halls’.

As a resident and user ofParawera Hall, she was aston-ished to see our hall, plusPirongia Memorial Hallprominently displayed andused as part of a pamphlet.Parawera ‘World famous inTaranaki!’.

We were wondering if any-one knows when the photo-graph by Nigel Prickett wastaken, as the signage and flaxplanting shown in it weren’tthere 12 years ago.

It would be lovely to see thehall used more, given itsupkeep and maintenance.

At present, the ParaweraIndoor Bowling Club are themajor users, leaving opportun-ities for others to enjoy thepremises for quiet, non-obtrusive events.

To contact the bowling club,or for enquiries about hallusage phone me on 872 7999.

PETE BRYANTParawera

Editor’s note: Mr Bryant sup-plied the pamphlet whichcontains information about‘Living Halls’ and otherexhibitions at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery. It talksabout the work of Fiona Jackas the 2009/10 Grovett-Brewster Artist in Residence. Her exhibition comprisesaccumulations of paintings(including two of PirongiaMemorial Hall by local artist

Shirley Scott), architecturaldrawings and photographs ofthe halls around New Zealandthat were built after theSecond World War, with Gov-ernment subsidies on offer forwar memorials to be built asnew community spaces - ‘liv-ing memorials’ — for thosewho sacrificed their livesfighting overseas. A book toaccompany the project is dueout this year.

Saying you can’tafford somethingnot negative

The museum/theatre complex isan issue that boils down to the honestyof those who are promoting it.

We have seen two who have prob-ably signed their death warrants ascouncillors due to their desire topromote a project without any propermandate from the community.

If the ‘thirds’ funding formula wereto be true, why has the first third notalready been raised before the WaipaDistrict Council commits money tothe project?

Mr Empson sees it as negativewhen people honestly say that theycannot afford the project.

He has ignored the facts of thismatter.

One of those is that he has notasked the public if or not they want amuseum.

Next, he has not told them thateven if the thing did cost a third inborrowing, that at 5% amounts to$684.93 per day on $5 Million forever, not taking into account any principalrepayments or increases in interest.

That is one property’s rates everythree days. That is if there are no over-runs.

The losses to the Waipa DistrictCouncil in terms of the lost revenuefrom their share of the funding is thesame amount in opportunity cost (thecost of other things missed out on).

Next, it is simply untrue that 41people visit the current museum onaverage every day of the year asclaimed by the promoters of thisproject.

Where is the proof? As said previously, I have not seen

queues waiting on the footpath and ifthe Library is suffering from overdemand then why is it not extendingit’s opening hours?

I have been asked to arrange ameeting to discuss these issues.

It is not a ‘negative’ meeting. It is the meeting that should have

been had before any plans were put onpaper.

It is for the public of Te Awamututo have a chance to have their issuedheard and recorded if they wish, positive and negative.

It may be the first of several and itis this Thursday at the BurchellPavillion at 7.30 pm.

Sport helped, why not heritage?Sports organisations pay

$5 rent and $195 in adminis-tration costs for groups wholease Council land.

Council is budgeted toreceive $68,200 this year —this is made up of rentals andthe recovery of servicecharges.

The current rent has beencalculated in accordance withCouncil’s policy and has a98% subsidy on rent.

Waipa District Museum, based in Te Awamutu, couldbe treated accordingly; cer-tainly in construction anduse.

Grants to communityorganisations are usually forongoing operational expendi-ture rather than for individ-ual projects.

This year the total is$324,500 which comes fromrates.

What does ‘Pirongia’ mean?

TC050810CA02PIRONGIA was formerly known as Alexandra, but what does the name mean?

BY CATHY ASPLIN

New Zealand is not neces-sarily world-famous for itsimaginative naming of places(think South Island, NorthIsland) but we do have somequirky names around thecountry.

‘Peep-o-day’ in the Mana-watu was named whensurveyors were strugglingthrough wet bush and under-growth they saw a clear spaceand open sky.

‘Terrible Billy’ nearChristchurch was namedafter a wild boar that roamedthe district (it met its demisewhen a farmers wife, takingaim from her kitchen window, managed to shoot it).

‘Vinegar Point’ was namedafter some early settlers in theMarlborough region got intodifficulties while drivingtheir horse and trap home inthe rain one night.

Cold and wet they sought awarming draught of brandy, but in the dark the bottle theyuncorked turned out to bevinegar.

‘Pudding Hill’ in Fiordlandand Breast Peaks in Otago, are not surprisingly bothnamed after the shape of thehills.

HOW DO YOU SPELL IT?There’s plenty of debate

over how some place namesshould be spelled.

Nationally the highest pro-file of those in recent timeshas been Wanganui

(Whanganui).Locally Ngahinapouri

(Ngahinepouri) is a goodexample.

Both are accepted and bothhave reasons for their spell-ing.

The storybehind theplace namesays that awoman who losther partner in atribal battlerefused to becomforted andlive in solitude. Thus ‘hine’ meansgirl, while ‘pouri’means sad wereincorporated intothe name.

However ‘hina’means gray hair so itcould be that wasused to describe thewoman.

WHAT DOESIT MEAN?

It’s also interestingto find out what some ofthe local names reallymean.

I had always beenunder the impressionthat Pirongia meant ‘bigsmell’.

The full name for MtPirongia was Pirongia-te-aroaro-o-Kahu whichmeant the health restoringpurification of Kahu. Herhusband Rakataura restoredher to health by means ofincantations.

Reunion for iconic facility

TC050810SP07OPENING function for the new Christopher Park wing in 1963.

Many people in the region willbe familiar with Hamilton’sChristopher Park, the first carehome for intellectually disabledchildren set up by IHC.

Next month it is the focus of areunion and anyone involvedwith the facility is invited toattend.

The iconic Waikatohealthcare organisation owes adebt of gratitude to Lorna Ranby, the woman determined to ensureher son Christopher had the bestquality of life possible.

Christopher’s sister DrAllison Oosterman recalls theevents of the time.

Her brother was born in 1945with an intellectual disabilitywhen he suffered a lack of oxygenat birth and had a brainhaemorrage.

His parents were told bydoctors to put him away in apsychopaedic hospital and forgetabout it.

‘‘They determined to makehim an integral part of the familyand the community and that iswhat Mum worked towards for

all IH people, ’ ’ says DrOosterman.

The Ranbys advertised a meet-ing for parents of IH children.

At that meeting it was decidedto work towards a better under-standing of IH people by provid-ing a special facility and respitecare for parents.

Dr Oosterman says hermother lead the charge fromparents to fundraise and lobbyuntil a property was purchased inGrey Street and ChristopherHouse was opened.

The demand for beds becameso great the parents decided tobuy more land and built theresidential facility that isChristopher Park about 50 yearsago.

It was used for its originalpurpose until 1989.

HISTORIC FOOTAGEOne catalyst for a reunion was

the discovery of historic footagefrom Christopher Park.

IHC and IDEA Servicesunearthed some old reels of filmin a Hamilton storeroom and hadsome of it restored and trans-

ferred to DVD.One film is a programme that

IHC contracted a company tomake called A Future for Karen —filmed in either the late 1960’s orearly 1970’s.

The other footage is from thesame time — of residents playinggames, attending workshops andgeneral day to day life at Christo-pher Park.

The reunion will include thepremiere of the restored footageand copies of the DVD will beavailable for attendees to pur-chase.

Organisers would also encour-age people to bring photos andmemorabilia to the event.

The reunion takes place at theKingsgate Hotel on Saturday,September 11 and will alsoinclude a trip to ChristopherPark for a powhiri and morningtea.

Details are on the IHC website(www.ihc.org.nz) or forms can bemailed to you if you contact IDEAServices Waikato/King Country,PO Box 750, Hamilton or phone(07) 834 7200.

Bagging school burglarsWaikato Police are putting their

weight behind an initiative that willsee DNA marking kits made avail-able to Waikato schools in an effortto minimise the risk of school burg-laries.

Former Waikato District Com-mander, Assistant CommissionerAllan Boreham, says 207 Waikatoschools or education providers wereburgled over the 2009/10 Fiscal Year.

‘‘Each time property is stolen ithas to be replaced placing pressureon the school’s funding and denyingour children learning opportun-ities.’’

The initiative by BNZ, in partner-ship with SelectaDNA and the Minis-try of Education, is being launchedat the Berkley Normal Middle Schooltoday and will see around 275 schoolsissued with forensic marking kits.

The kits allow for about 100 itemsof property to have forensicmarkings applied. Police can thendetect the markings with the use ofultra violet light.

Each kit contains a bottle of DNAsolution that is easily applied to anyitem of value. The unique DNA codein the solution will link each item tothe individual school without dam-aging the marked property in anyway.

‘‘Last year a 61 per cent reductionin burglary was recorded during atrial in Manurewa’s Randwick Parkwhen 1000 homes, schools and busi-nesses were provided the kits,’’ saysMr Boreham.

‘‘With increasing demands foreducation providers to providevisual imagery and computer skills, schools are frequently becoming tar-gets of opportunist burglars.’’

Participating schools are alsobeing provided with fence signs andstickers. The initiative is part of theSerial Number Action Partnership(SNAP) — a collection of communitybased initiatives aimed at beatingburglary and the trade in stolenproperty. All parties involved in thisinitiative are partners in SNAP.

Main, McCormick shine incycling Tour of Canberra

CFPJULIA MAIN in action in the Waikato-BOP Secondary Schools’Championships at Paterangi earlier this year.

HAYDEN MCCORMICK

BY COLIN THORSEN

Top 10 placings in the Tourof Canberra capped an out-standing year for Te AwamutuSports cyclists HaydenMcCormick and Julia Main.

The pair, along with club-mate Thomas Moser, con-tinued New Zealand’s proudrecord in the Junior Tour —McCormick finishing fourthand Main seventh on generalclassification out of over 150riders in their respective

under-17 boys’ and girls’ tours.‘‘Conditions were freezing

for stage one’s 50km road race, everyone was all rugged up onthe start line,’ ’ saysMcCormick.

‘‘I was pretty pleased tokick my tour off with fifthplacing, given the conditions.

‘‘There were a few bigclimbs that claimed more thanhalf of the field.’’

McCormick says he wouldhave liked to have won thestage to claim the 20 secondstime bonus allotted to thewinner.

‘‘Our coach Ken Bewleycommented that you ‘have towin a stage to win the tour’and it certainly rang true.

‘‘Riding for time bonusesmade the racing completelydifferent to anything we havein New Zealand.’’

McCormick backed up inthe afternoon with 20thplacing in the 20 minutes, plusthree laps criterium, finishingat the head of the bunch.

The Australian major stateteam, Jayco, took control ofthe race.

The last day of the tourstarted with a 48km road race.

There were several turnarounds which ended up caus-ing chaos with all the 90 strongbunch going around one cone.A break got away after theturn around.

McCormick says he chasedback on, using up a fair whackof his energy. But no soonerhad he got to the front, anotherattack went which he missed.

The break bunch stayedaway to win by 40 seconds.McCormick finished 22nd.

The New Zealand under-17road champion finished thetour with an outstanding timetrial, placing third to securefourth overall on GC.

‘‘I would have loved topodium but I have had anawesome year.’’

Julia Main featuredprominently throughout thegirls’ under-17 tour, placingfifth in the road race, eighth in

the criterium and 14th in thetime trial.

‘‘I thoroughly enjoyed thetour,’’ she told the Courier.

‘‘It was a really differentexperience going into thisevent. I didn’t know how goodall the other girls were.

‘‘I was happy with my roadrace placing but my time trialwas terrible.

‘‘After two days of racing, Iguess I had given my all in thelast road race and didn’t haveenough left for the time trial —but I will learn from that.’’

She says riding the tour has

‘‘given me the confidence thatI can compete with the best inmy age group across the Tas-man.

‘‘The tour proved that usKiwi girls are competitivewith the Australians. They’renot really better than us.’’

Main is now focussing onthe fast approaching Tour ofManawatu.

Thomas Moser’s bestplacing was 16th in the under-19 boys’ individual time trial. He was 28th in the stage tworoad race and 39th in thecriterium.

Chopper Appealsoars in Waikato

Waikato residents again provided strong supportfor their rescue helicopter, the Westpac Waikato AirAmbulance, raising $165,431.81 for this year’sChopper Appeal.

With Westpac covering the campaign costs, 100%of the amount raised goes to the rescue service.

The Philips Search and Rescue Trust is joiningwith the 15 other rescue helicopter trusts nation-wide and Westpac to extend a thank you to thehundreds of thousands of generous New Zealanderswho donated a record $1,450,475.84 during the recentnational appeal – nearly 28% more than last year.

Kylie Harcourt, Philips Search and Rescue Trustspokesperson says this year’s appeal was a hugesuccess, and would make a vital contribution to theoperation of region’s rescue helicopter services.

The majority of funding for this unique servicecomes from communities around the country, fromsponsors like Westpac, a proud supporter for nearly30 years, and other fundraising activities.

Mark Graham, Westpac national sponsorshipmanager, says the dedicated teams of pilots, paramedics, flight crew and volunteers are whatmake the service special.

“This is a crucial service that can make a life ordeath difference for thousands of New Zealanders –next time it could be any one of us, a member of ourfamily or a friend,” says Mr Graham.

New Zealand’s rescue helicopters undertookclose to 5,000 missions last year; each mission coststhousands of dollars and includes a mix of ambu-lance and search and rescue work.

Westpac is the major sponsor of the Auckland,Wellington and Christchurch Westpac rescue heli-copters and Waikato Air Ambulance, and throughthe Westpac Chopper Appeal helps all other regionalhelicopter services around New Zealand. Donationsare welcome throughout the year and can be made atwww.chopperappeal.co.nz or any Westpac branch.

David Bennett, MP for Hamilton East and TimMacindoe, MP for Hamilton West, visited thehelicopter hangar at Waikato Hospital to mark aone-off funding grant of $1 Million by NASO to NewZealand air ambulance and rescue helicopterservices. NASO is the ‘National Ambulance SectorOffice’ — a joint venture between the Ministry ofHealth and ACC.

The visit gave the Trust the opportunity toprovide Mr Bennett and Mr Macindoe with a fullinsight into the operations and issues surroundingthe air rescue and ambulance service for theWaikato and King Country region.

IN BUSINESSCIRCLES

Building mover follows in father’s footsteps (and tyre treads)BY CATHY ASPLIN

Gene Letford (right) admits he’s been crawlingunder houses since he was a child, so it’s no surprisehe now has his own house haulage company.

‘G&C Letford Building Movers’ attracted plentyof attention when they recently shifted a house off aMahoe Street property - by going straight over thefront wall.

‘‘We built up ramps to the height of the wall andjust drove out the front.

‘‘It was the easiest way to do it as the building iswider than normal (10.8m) so we couldn’t use thedriveway. It is also 6m high which means we have tohave power lines lifted in places.

‘‘We were also required to use purple flashinglights during the move to indicate the building isover 5m wide.

‘‘We have to travel between 10pm and 6am - so ifyou see purple flashing lights when you’re drivingat night time look out for the large building comingyour way! ’’

While most people would be overwhelmed at thethought of carting houses around the country, it hasbecome second nature for Mr Letford.

His father Terry also owned a house movingcompany and he worked for him for around sixyears.

Over the years he has also driven heavymachinery in the USA and operated cranes.

‘‘While I was working for Dad we shifted lots ofbuildings, houses, garages, sheds etc. One of thebiggest jobs was shifting buildings out of the way toallow a barge through at Taharoa. Once the bargepassed we had to put the buildings back again,’’ MrLetford says.

He says moving buildings offers a great optionfor people who want to use a valuable piece of landfor development, but don’t necessarily want thebuildings that are on it.

‘‘In other cases it may be that a house that is rightin the centre of a larger property can be shifted toallow several dwellings to be built.’’

He says moving an older home onto a new sectionalso offers a good way of getting into the housingmarket for young people.

‘‘I got my first house when I was 19, I bought asection and shifted an old house onto it myself. I’vesince done the same for my brother and my sister.’’

Today his father mostly drives pilot vehicles andalso works for G&C Letford Building Movers.

A team of four prepare the buildings for removaland can arrange storage, shift them to a newposition or find someone to sell them to.

‘‘I’ve become a bit of a middle man really. I hookup people who want to get rid of an old house orbuilding with someone that’s looking for one, thenwe arrange the move.’’

‘‘We can also help out with paperwork and anybackground issues involved with shifting a build-ing.’’

For further details or enquiries contact Gene orChristine Letford (ph 871 0371 or [email protected]).

Gold award, category wTe Awamutu builder, Daniel

Kraayvanger of DK Builders is celebrating being awarded Gold and Category Winner in the New Homes ($250,000 to $350,000) at the recent Waikato Regis-tered Master Builders House of the Year 2010 awards.

This is the fi rst year Daniel has entered the competition.

“I’m overwhelmed to have wonthese awards for the house built on Cambridge Road in Te Awamutu.”

To be awarded Gold the house had to be of a quality that is 80% higher than industry standard and achieve over 90% of the points available when judged.

Entries in the competition were judged by a building specialist and a design specialist.

In all 65% of the marks award-

ed relate to the quality of the workmanship used in build-ing the home while 35% of the marks awarded relate to the de-sign, functionality and style of the home.

Daniel’s award-winning entry on Cambridge Road is a mono-pitched architecturally designed home featuring three spacious bedrooms, master with ensuite, abundant storage, fully appoint-ed kitchen and bathroom with stacker doors and windows to create an indoor/outdoor fl ow.

The raised ceilings create the illusion of space and strategi-cally placed lighting ensures all rooms can be used to their full potential.

Overall the home is beautifully presented and meticulously fi n-ished.

The house was designed by Jason Kraayvanger of New Vi-sion Architecture.

“The house’s design was infl u-enced by the limited space avail-able on the site, client’s budget, needs and preferences, and the desire to utilise as much natural sunlight as possible to create the desired outdoor living area and a spacious feel.”

“I also needed to make all of the rooms as spacious as pos-sible.”

Some of the unique design fea-tures New Vision Architecture in-corporated into the house were a sunny but sheltered outdoor covered living area to create a social indoor - outdoor fl ow and the strategic use of traditional and modern cladding types to provide balance to the design.

DK Builders was formed by Daniel Kraayvanger in June 2007. He has 10 years experience in the building industry.

DK Builders undertakes a wide range of building projects, such as additions, renovations, new homes, landscaping and decking in the Te Awamutu area and is planning to expand to the greater Waikato Area.

He formed a strategic alliance with New Vision Architecture Limited, which is owned and operated by his brother Jason Kraayvanger.

This allows DK Builders to offer customers house and land packages to suit their budget.

While Daniel enjoys working in the top end of the market, his main goal is to build homes to suit any budget.

He is keen to maintain customer satisfaction and build on his reputation as an award winning builder.

“I already have at least one entry for next year’s House of the Year Competition and hope my success this year will help me increase my client base in the greater Waikato.”

SOLDSOLD

Marist second seedsfor rugby play offs

CFPDUAL referee/rugbyplayer LoganMcLaughlin scorestwo tries coming on asa replacement for TeAwamutu Marist.

Te Awamutu Maristthrashed Leamington41-15 to finish second inthe preliminary roundof Waikato second div-ision rugby.

But Carl Hendersonreports that MurrayGane Plumbing TeAwamutu Marist weremade to work harderthan expected for theirwin against a lowlyranked Leamingtonside, beefed up with afew ‘ring ins’ on Satur-day.

‘‘It was the hardgame the Marist boyswere after with thequarter finals comingup this weekend.’’

Marist opened thescoring after twominutes with a try toBryce McCandlish, playing in the unaccus-tomed role of first five.

Adam Kahurascored try number twowith a clever chip and chase, fol-lowed by a third five pointer to hardrunning flanker Uoka Kavesi.

The game became ‘very scrappy’for the next 15 minutes.

Stern talking by coach TonyKahura saw Marist come out firing

after halftime, playingsome very attractiverugby.

Replacement LoganMcLaughlin scored abrace of tries, whilecaptain Mark Kahuraand wing Ace Masaloscored one each.

Leamington scoredone well executed tryand were giftedanother when the ref-eree reportedly misseda Marist player forcingthe ball beforeawarding the try.

Marist’s Redoubtplayer of the day wentto hooker Cogar Sands, who had a strong run-ning game as well asanchoring a dominantMarist scrum.

Flanker CamMcKenzie was hisusual livewire self, while ThomasMahutonga stood outin the backs.

Te Awamutu Marist have thehome ground advantage playingFraser Tech in the quarter-finals thisSaturday.

Henderson says Marist arehoping to have a strong band ofsupporters cheering them on.

Back in familiar territory

TC050810CT02GARY RYAN, scorer of one of Te Awamutu’s twogoals against Taupo.

Taupo showed just why they have been top teamin the Waikato Bay of Plenty Federation SoccerLeague for a number of seasons, coming frombehind to beat Te Awamutu 4-2.

Cape Physio Te Awamutu returned to theirperennial home at the Stadium to host the visitors.

Coach Kim Brierley reports that after 18 monthsof hard work between the club and the council, thesurface was a credit to those who have workedtirelessly to put football on arguably one of the bestpitches in the Waikato.

Games between these two teams have alwaysbeen hard fought affairs and Saturday’s was noexception. Both teams contested each ball as if theirlives depended on it.

Taupo managed to get their noses in front after 25minutes.

Te Awamutu responded in positive fashion.Aaron Kelly sprinted past his marker on the leftwing and delivered a ball across the Taupogoalmouth. Indecision between the visiting keeperand a defender allowed the ball to take a deflectionand nestle in the Taupo net for a 1-1 halftimescoreline.

Te Awamutu hit the front when an overhead kickmanaged to find the head of Andrew Ryan who rifledhis shot home.

A Taupo forward then beat the Te Awamutudefence and gave keeper Danyon Drake no chance.

The run that Te Awamutu are on requires somebreak of sorts to get them away from the relegationspots. But as in previous weeks, the form bookwasn’t going to be upset, as Taupo scored twofurther goals to run out deserving winners.

Te Awamutu meet Otorohanga in a local derbythis Saturday.

Brierley says this game can go either way.‘‘Te Awamutu need to throw themselves whole-

heartedly into this match. It is so crucial in thebattle to stay with the elite of Federation One overthe rest of the campaign and into next season.’’

Tigers v COG’s showdownUnbeaten netball teams square off tonight

TC050810CT01PIRONGIA Ray White Troopers’ GA ShannonWeir shoots for goal, under pressure fromKorakonui Panthers GD Olivia Lennex in a C3grade game at Te Awamutu Netball Centrecourts on Saturday.

The two remaining unbeaten premier netballteams, Kawau Tigers and COGS’s 1, both camethrough round six unscathed at ASB Stadium at TeAwamutu Events Centre.

They square off tonight in an eagerly awaitedround seven clash which could ultimately deter-mine the top seed for the playoffs.

Gaylene Dorssers reports that Kawau Tigerswill go into the game with confidence, havingbeaten COG’s twice earlier in the season.

Bailey Ingham were unable to repeat their firstround upset win over Kawau Tigers last Thursday.

Tigers, fielding their full compliment of experi-enced players, shot out to a 15-8 lead in the firstquarter with some great defensive turnovers thattheir shooters were able to finish off.

The second quarter was no different. Tigersextended their lead to 30-18 at half time.

Bailey Ingham played with admirable tenacityin the third stanza, winning the quarter by twogoals.

Tigers’ defence lifted their work rate in the finalquarter, restricting Bailey to only six goals, winning the game comfortably 58-38.

COG’s 1 knew that Hamilton based Phoenixwould be hungry for a win in their quest to makethe top four.

Phoenix opted for their ‘moving’ shooters in thehope to outplay the strong GOG’s defence combina-tion. It was only towards the end of the first quarterthat COG’s managed to build a 14-8 lead. The nexttwo quarters were tough going for both teams.

There were only twos breaks, both by COG’s, inthe entire 30 minute period of play.

COG’s led 39-29 and ended up winning 51-37 byconcentrating on scoring off their centre pass, keeping their game short and looking afterpossession on attack.

College Open A posted their first win this roundagainst Shiloh Rua 53-36. A feature of the game wasthe confident performance by all the Collegeshooters.

Having scored 17 goals in the first quarter,College looked to be cruising.

Shiloh, however, had other plans and for thenext two quarters were competitive to the pointthey won the third quarter 10-9.

With the three quarter score at 38-32 to College, the students lifted their performance once again, finishing with a flourish of goals.

Fraser Tech went a long way to securing fourthplace and a spot in the semis with a 60-54 winagainst RSN Morgan Builders.

RSN had to field two players from their premierreserve team, including 13-year-old Colien Swiftwho plays in the Te Awamutu U15 representativeteam. She is an exciting prospect for the future andstood up to the challenge.

Fraser’s GS Kieran Overwater produced a nearperfect performance for her team, who led 20-14after 15 minutes.

RSN played clever netball to win the next twoquarters to be on even terms, 41-all.

With 15 minutes to play, the intensity lifted and

both teams were guilty of letting errors creep intotheir game.

In the end, the fitness of the Fraser team gotthem over the line.

We are a professional couple based in the Waikato who have been happily married for 6 years. As a couple we are very family orien-tated and love our home, garden and cat. We also enjoy yoga, music and motorbike riding. We would love to have a family and have tried IVF, without success. Our doctors now tell us that our only chance to have a child will be through the gift of a donor egg.

Woman who can donate eggs are amazing. Are you the very special woman who will do this for us? If you think you may be able to help us and are a healthy, non smoking woman aged between 27-37 we would love to hear from you.
