The NEW Sakai GW750-2Vibratory Pneumatic Tire roller is perfectfor use on breakdown and intermediatepasses on Superpave and other perpetualpavement applications. This new modelthe only one of its kind in the world develops a new dynamic gyratory actionthat combines the field-proven kneadingaction of a pneumatic tire roller with thehigh forces generated by a vibratory roller. It develops the compactive effort equal toor greater than a 55,000-pound staticpneumatic tire roller.

End User Benefits

• Vibrating Tires Create Uniform Densityin Depth – The GW750-2 features threevibrating pneumatic tires on the front axleinterspersed with four on the rear, for atotal overlap coverage and rolling widthof 77”.

Obtaining uniform density throughout thepavement layer thickness is a key factor inobtaining a bonus payment. The SakaiGW750-2 combines the benefits of staticpneumatic tires with vibration to achieve abalanced high density from top to bottomof a typical HMA lift. It also develops thekneading action of a pneumatic tire roller

for density and smoothness across thejobsite. The value of this new combinationof forces is proven by core samples takenon the jobsite.

The process will also overcome the poten-tial problem of bridging, typically foundwith HMA overlays of profiled pavements, where the mix does not seat properly inthe grooves. The dynamic kneading actionof the GW750-2 “massages” the mix intothese milled surfaces for a much-improvedinterlock of the new mix with the profiledsurface and integrated density of the newlycombined foundation.

• Super on Superpave –Recommendations for use of conventionalpneumatic tire rollers as intermediaterollers in a Superpave train generally don’twork because the pneumatic roller slowsup a process that requires speed to suc-ceed. To avoid these bottlenecks, Sakai hasdetermined that the combination of twoSakai high frequency double drum vibrato-ries and one GW750-2, followed by oneSakai R2H-2 Balanced Three-Wheeler, isthe perfect combination for overcomingboth tender mix problems, giving the con-tractor the ability to move fast and makebonuses on incentive-based projects. Formore information on suggested rolling pat-terns for this equipment, please ask forSakai’s brochure entitled “New SuperRollers for Superpave Mix”.

On stiffer HMA mixes where a higher per-centage of crushed aggregates break downfaster under the dynamic kneading actionof the new roller, the GW750-2 has alsobeen proven very effective. The GW750-2is also excellent on SMA mix designs.

• Unique Eccentric Weight Design – The Sakai GW750-2 offers a totally newvibration concept that allows the pneumatictires to be vibrated. This new systememploys a typical vibratory motor and shaftarrangement. The shaft drives an eccentricshaft system that is housed within the tireassemblies. A unique switching systemenables the operator to select from achoice of five different force settings from20,580 pounds static force to over 55,000pounds total applied force, switchable rightfrom the operator’s station. The uniquevibration of the special pneumatic tirescombined with the long-proven bulbouseffect, develops a compaction effort equalto that of a conventional 27.5-ton pneu-matic tire roller, with far less fuel requiredand far less trailer.

• All-Wheel Drive – Both axles of theGW750-2 are driven hydrostatically. Inaddition to the excellent traction capabili-ties of this system, the driven tires elimi-nate the bow wave build up and hairlinecracking typical of non-driven drums ortires. All-wheel drive also permits effectiveoperation in either the forward or reversedirections without marring the hot mat.Super flat, 14” wide tires developed bySakai specifically for this machine provideample coverage and overlap for a smoothsurface finish.

• On-Track Steering – The articulatedsteering system of the GW750-2 isdesigned so that the front and rear tirestrack precisely for even compaction andoptimum smoothness over the 77” widecoverage of the machine. The systemoffers a tight outer turning radius of 213” -excellent for maneuvering around tightturns without shoving material due tohydrostatic differential effect. In addition, the dual variable flow motors in the rear ofthe machine compensate for the speed dif-ferential between the outer and inner tiresand further eliminate pushing and shovingof the mat.

• Dual Spray Systems – Sakai asphaltrollers offer the most reliable pressurizedspray systems available. The GW750-2features dual spray systems located overboth the front and rear tires - providingboth a pressurized release agent and pres-surized water. The release agent preventspicking up the hot mix on cold tires and isactivated by a switch at the operator’s sta-tion. Like all Sakai spray systems, theGW750-2 includes ample water reservoirs, convenient back-up pumps and brassspray nozzles that are quick and easy toclean or replace on the job.

• Efficient Engine – The GW750-2 is pow-ered by a powerful yet fuel-efficient 123horsepower Isuzu water-cooled tur-bocharged diesel engine. This engine fullycomplies with current emission standards. The engine is mounted on rubber isolatorsto absorb vibration. The engine doors arenoise-suppressed and fully open for safe, simple maintenance from the ground level.

• Dual Fuel Savings – Aside from theneed for a bigger trailer to pull your bigstatic roller, a Sakai GW750-2 will alsosave you big fuel dollars once on site –double the fuel savings in today’s tougheconomy.

High Safety Standards

Sakai believes that operator safety is ahigh priority. ROPS and seat belts are stan-dard equipment on every Sakai roller soldin North America.

Operator Comfort

The GW750-2 Series operator’s station is arubber-isolated floating deck designed tominimize the transmission of vibration tothe operator and to reduce fatigue.Accessible from both sides of the machine, the operator’s station consists of dual seatsand dual instrumentation - ensuring that allcontrols are conveniently located andwithin easy reach and view of the operator.

• Superior Serviceability – Fast Support –Sakai has been building high qualityconstruction equipment since 1918. Wemanufacture more vibratory compactorsannually than anyone else in the world.Sakai stocks component parts for all itsproducts that, if necessary, are availablevia over-night dispatch from its NorthAmerican Headquarters in Georgia.
