Dear Friends at St. Louise, Happy Feast of the Holy Family! During this pandemic I have learned some new things about what it means to be a member of a family. I have learned that, through the gift of technology, we can be together in a meaningful way even when we decide to not gather in person, to help protect those who are most vulnerable. I have also been reminded that God lovingly, gently and powerfully prepares us, and gives us everything we need, in abundance. Let me explain. Nine years ago, I went on a 30-day Ignatian silent retreat with a group of 25 people. It was the most powerful experience of my life. I had just celebrated my 25th anniversary as a priest, and had decided that would be a good time to reflect on those years and to prepare for the next phase of my priestly service. Surprisingly, what I heard from the Lord in my prayer on that retreat was the importance of being a good son, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin. That is what will help me to be a good pastor and priest. So I tried to be more intentional about being with my family and to communicate more with them more often; but I was never quite sure if I was living out what I felt the Lord called me to do. At the end our Zoom family meeting on Thanksgiving, my sister-in-law Paula invited us to pray together. Later on, it occurred to me that Advent is only four weeks long – why not pray together each Sunday evening of Advent? So that’s what my extended family has been doing, and it has been a great blessing to come together, read a short reading from Scripture, pray what is called “The Litany of Trust,” offer our personal intentions and close with the Lord’s Prayer. During this time, one of my nieces went through a particularly hard time. Even though she did not join us in the prayer sessions, we gave special focus to her and her family, and we each made some kind of commitment to reach out to her with love. I have thought of what one of the spiritual directors said at the end of my 30-day retreat: “You will find that the graces of this retreat will unfold gradually and when you need it most.” During this time of the pandemic, during a time of challenge for our family, I found those words to be very true. I hope that this personal experience of mine will encourage each of you to know that God gives us the gift that we need at the time that we need it. God’s plan is the best plan. May this Christmas season help us to see that when Jesus was born into a family, he blessed every family. With my prayers and care for all in our parish family, Fr. Gary Zender

Thank you to the many school and parish families who donated to the New Bethlehem Shelter Supply Drive! The thousands of dia-pers, hundreds of personal products including shampoo, toothbrushes, socks, toilet paper, etc., filled more than five SUVs yesterday as they delivered these much-needed items to the family shelter in Kirkland. We appreciate your wonderful generosity this Advent! Also, we want to thank our school families and supporters who joined us for our first Livestream Online Auction event! We were able to raise nearly $70,000 during our Nosh & Mix party (sponsored by Ascend Prime Steak & Sushi). Most of the dollars raised will go to providing our teachers a bonus for their incredible dedication to our in-person and remote students as we all navigate this pan-demic year. We are grateful for our teachers, our students and our families! Thank you! We wish you a very merry Christmas and will be praying for the health our entire St. Louise community!

Volunteer Opportunity Do you have a passion for com-municating the love of Christ through cutting-edge technolo-gy? We are looking for addition-al volunteers to help with our AV ministry / live-streaming our Masses and other liturgical cele-brations.

While the equipment is easy to operate and training will be given, it is necessary to have some basic knowledge of computers. Volunteer hours can be counted towards your St. Louise School volunteer service commitment.

Currently help is mostly needed at our 9AM weekday Masses and at weddings and funerals.

Please contact Lynette Basta, [email protected], if you are inter-ested in helping.
