Music and MovementAn exhibition to mark the tenthanniversary of Summer Music -drawings, water-colours and mixedmedia by t`^/o artists for whom musicis a constant source of inspiration.Ken Donald, whose curatorship of theHeatherslaw Gallery in Northumberlandin 1995 helped to give birth to thefestival, has lived and worked indiverse cultures, from New York toIstanbul, and his work is representedin public and private collections inEurope. North America and Australia.
Barry Woodward, who regularly exhibits in the North East of England, has work inmany collections both here and overseas. His recent work for this exhibition isinfused with the movement and relationships of musicians in performance andrehearsal. All artists' works are for sale.
The exhibition also re-traces the rich musical journey of this prestigiousborderlands' festival through photographs, recordings and other memorabilia.

This young, prize-winning quartet returns to Summer Music for a weekend ofperformances. Their opening recital focuses on the great classical masters: one ofBeethoven's celebrated quartets dedicated to Coiint Razumovsky, and one from theset Mozart dedicated to Haydn after careful study Of the older composer`s works,together with Brahms's richly-mature second quintet, for which they are joined by thesuperb violist James Boyd.

Following their popular series of Mozart and Beethoven violin sonatas in 2003 and2004, Susanne Stanzeleit and Guszt5v Fenys" play the complete output for violin andpiano by this last great classical master in three informal concerts on the festival's firstweekend. The duo's musical partriership was forged in 1989 at the InternationalBart6k Seminar in Hungary; they have also played complete cycles of Bach, Brahmsand Bart6k, the latter recorded for ASV to high critical acclaim.

Our innovative second weekend begins with a homage to one of today's leadingcomposers. the Hungarian Gy6rgy Kurtag, who has, himself, written homages to othercomposers - in this case, Robert Schumann, whose lyrical second trio follows. Thedistinguished oboist, Gareth Hulse, makes the first of t`^/a appearances at SummerMusic in Mozart's only oboe quartet, and the concert concludes w-rth Bart6k's brilliantand most approachable chamber work, written specially for the jazz clarinettistDenny Goodman.

Ollr second weekend mini-series features some of the most genial and variedmusic for piano trio written by the pioneer of this genre. We welcome this fineAustrian ensemble, renowned for their interpretation of the music of the Vienneseclassical era, who have performed all 39 trios at the Haydn Festival in EsterhazyCastle in Eisenstadt. and are currently recording them. They have chosen nine of thegreatest examples for Summer Music. The trio has recently embarked on a newproject with Scottish singers Lorna Anderson and Jamie MacDougall to record Haydn`s425 Scottish Songs.
