PRIVATE MASS ASSOCIATION
To accommodate those who wish to have a mass intention in
memory of someone they love but are unable to get a particular
day because the intentions at St. Timothy have been filled, St.
Timothy now offers a Private Mass Association where a priest
friend of Fr. Ed will offer a mass for that intention. The intention
will be forwarded to the priest along with the name and address
of the person requesting the mass and the priest will send a note
confirming that the mass with the intention has been offered.
For those interested in this association, please come to the
Church.

THE HUSHERS
The preacher was wired for sound with a lapel mike, and as he
preached, he moved briskly about the platform, jerking the
mike cord as he went.
Then he moved to one side, getting wound up in the cord and
nearly tripping before jerking it again.
After several circles and jerks, a little girl in the third pew
leaned toward her mother and whispered, “If he gets loose, will
he hurt us?”
Six-year old Angie, and her four-year old brother, Joel, were
sitting together in church.
Joel giggled, sang and talked out loud.
Finally, his big sister had had enough. “You’re not supposed to
talk out loud in church.”
“Why? Who’s going to stop me?” Joel asked.
Angie pointed to the back of the church and said, “See those
two men standing by the door?
They’re hushers!“
My grandson was visiting one day when he asked, “Grandma,
do you know how you and God are alike?”
I mentally polished my halo, while I asked, “No, how are we
alike?”
“You’re both old,” he replied.
A ten-year old, under the tutelage of her grandmother, was
becoming quite knowledgeable about the Bible.
Then, one day, she floored her grandmother by asking, “Which
Virgin was the mother of Jesus? The Virgin Mary or the King
James Virgin?”
A Sunday school class was studying the Ten Commandments.
They were ready to discuss the last one. The teacher asked if
anyone could tell her what it was. Susie raised her hand,
stood tall, and quoted, “Thou shall not take the covers off the
neighbor’s wife.”

Coronavirus Updates
During this time of Lent, I turn to our Lord, Jesus, who is the
leader of our world and our guide. I ask our entire community of
faith to pray for those already diagnosed with disease and
sickness, no matter the source, and for those who are suffering
at the hand of injustice and disregard for their sacred being. Let
us not fall prey to fear; but, seek the courage of Jesus as He
began the walk from Jerusalem to Calvary.
-Most Reverend John Noonan, Bishop of the Diocese of Orlando
Did you know…? Your gifts to Our Catholic Appeal help
others to encounter Christ.
The Diocese of Orlando facilitates the Church’s mission to
evangelize – to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Mt.
28:19). As a result of your gifts to Our Catholic Appeal, our
diocese is able to offer catechetical ministry support to parishes
with the aim of fostering mature discipleship and promoting
vibrant communities of faith. Whether intergenerational or family
-based, age-appropriate for adults, adolescents, or children, the
goal is to help parishes be discipleship learning centers that
help people explore the richness of their Catholic faith, deepen
their relationship with Christ, and share more fully in the mission
of the Church.

When Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, he found
him and said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?" He
answered and said, “Who is he, sir, that I may believe in
him?” Jesus said to him, “You have seen him and the one

something handmade and special.
As always your donations of baby yarn, gift cards, or monetary
donations are greatly appreciated and will help us in this ministry.

PLEASE PRAY
We turn to Mary, Mother of God, our Patroness, and pray the prayer
which Pope Francis offered on March 11:
O Mary,
you always shine on our path
as a sign of salvation and of hope.
We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick,
who at the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm.
You, Salvation of the Roman People,
know what we need,
and we are sure you will provide
so that, as in Cana of Galilee,
we may return to joy and to feasting
after this time of trial.
Help us, Mother of Divine Love,
to conform to the will of the Father
and to do as we are told by Jesus,
who has taken upon himself our sufferings
and carried our sorrows
to lead us, through the cross,
to the joy of the resurrection.
Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God.
Do not disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial,
but deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT: SECOND SCRUTINY
FOR THE ELECT OF OUR PARISH
During the 11:00 AM Sunday Mass, following the homily, the
elect of our parish: Dominic, Aaliyah, and Mia Rojas, will
participate in the second of three Scrutinies. In this second
Scrutiny, the Gospel tells the story of a man born blind who is
healed by Jesus. Christ is the light of the world who draws all
men out of darkness and who comes to meet them in Baptism,
where their spiritual eyes will be washed clean, enabling them to
see with the eyes of faith. “Jesus heard that they had cast him
out , and having found him he said, ‘Do you believe in the Son of
man?’ He answered, ‘And who is he, sir, that I may believe in
him?’ Jesus said to him, ‘You have seen him, and it is he who
speaks to you.’ He said, ‘Lord, I believe’; and he worshipped
him” (John 9:35-38). As the blind man comes to believe in Jesus,
so too will the elect come to believe in him and witness his power
in the world.
Please pray for Dominic, Aaliyah, and Mia.

TAKE TIME TO REFLECT AFTER MASS
Do we forget everything that happened at Mass as soon as we burst out the
church door? We shouldn’t let that happen, says, St. John Chrysostom.
Take some time after Mass to digest what you’ve heard there, or it will do you
no good at all.
I hear many say, “While we’re here and have the privilege of
hearing, we are awed, but when we leave, we change again,
and the fire of enthusiasm goes out.”
So what can we do to keep this from happening? Let’s figure out
how it happens. Where does such a great change in us come
from? It comes from the inappropriate use of our time, and from
the company of evil people.
We shouldn’t jump right back into business unsuited for church
as soon as we leave church. Instead, as soon as we get home,
we ought to take our Bible in our hands and call our wife and
children to join in putting together what we’ve heard – and then,
not before, go back to the business of life.
After the bath, you don’t hurry to the marketplace, because the
business of the market would destroy the refreshment of the
bath. Well, we have much more reason to act on the same
principle after church. But in fact we do the opposite, and thus
throw away everything. While the good effect of what has been
said to us is not settled yet, the great force of the things that
press on us from the outside sweeps everything away
completely.
To keep this from happening, when you go home from church,
you should think nothing more necessary that you should put
together the things that have been said to you. It would be the
worst kind of folly if while we give five and even six days to the
business of this life, we wouldn’t give even one day to spiritual
things – or rather not so much as a small part of one day.
-St. John Chrysostom, Homily 5 on Matthew 1
IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .
What do I do on Sunday’s after Mass?
Could I be using that time – even half an hour of it – a little
better?
CLOSING PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on me, and let me spend the whole day
perfect, holy, peaceful, and without sin.
Source: “A year with the Church Fathers”, Mike Aquilina, Convergent, 2017
ACCEPT YOUR WHOLE SELF – THE LIGHT AND THE DARK
It is very difficult for each of us to believe in Christ’s words, “I did
not come to call the virtuous, but sinners. . . .” Perhaps no
psychologist has stressed the need of self-acceptance so much
as Carl Jung. For Jung, self-realization meant integration of the
shadow. It is the growing ability to allow the dark side of our
personality to enter into the awareness and thus prevent a one-
sided life in which only that which is presentable to the outside
world is considered as a real part of ourselves. To come to an
inner unity, totality and wholeness, every part of our self should
be accepted and integrated. Christ represents the light in us. But
Christ was crucified between two murderers who live in us.
(Source: “You Are The Beloved”, Fr. Henri Nouwen, Convergent, 2017)

ANNUNCIATION OF THE LORD
SAINT OF THE DAY FOR MARCH 25
THE STORY OF THE ANNUNCIATION OF THE LORD
The feast of the Annunciation,
now recognized as a solemnity,
was first celebrated in the
fourth or fifth century. Its central
focus is the Incarnation: God
has become one of us. From all
eternity God had decided that
the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity should become
human. Now, as Luke 1:26-38 tells us, the decision is being
realized. The God-Man embraces all humanity, indeed all
creation, to bring it to God in one great act of love. Because
human beings have rejected God, Jesus will accept a life of
suffering and an agonizing death: “No one has greater love than
this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13).
Mary has an important role to play in God’s plan. From all
eternity, God destined her to be the mother of Jesus and closely
related to him in the creation and redemption of the world. We
could say that God’s decrees of creation and redemption are
joined in the decree of Incarnation. Because Mary is God’s
instrument in the Incarnation, she has a role to play with Jesus in
creation and redemption. It is a God-given role. It is God’s grace
from beginning to end. Mary becomes the eminent figure she is
only by God’s grace. She is the empty space where God could
act. Everything she is she owes to the Trinity.
Mary is the virgin-mother who fulfills Isaiah 7:14 in a way that
Isaiah could not have imagined. She is united with her son in
carrying out the will of God (Psalm 40:8-9; Hebrews 10:7-9; Luke
1:38).
Together with Jesus, the privileged and graced Mary is the link
between heaven and earth. She is the human being who best,
after Jesus, exemplifies the possibilities of human existence.
She received into her lowliness the infinite love of God. She
shows how an ordinary human being can reflect God in the
ordinary circumstances of life. She exemplifies what the Church
and every member of the Church is meant to become. She is the
ultimate product of the creative and redemptive power of God.
She manifests what the Incarnation is meant to accomplish for
all of us.
REFLECTION
Sometimes spiritual writers are accused of putting Mary on a
pedestal and thereby, discouraging ordinary humans from
imitating her. Perhaps such an observation is misguided. God
did put Mary on a pedestal and has put all human beings on a
pedestal. We have scarcely begun to realize the magnificence of
divine grace, the wonder of God’s freely given love. The marvel
of Mary—even in the midst of her very ordinary life—is God’s
shout to us to wake up to the marvelous creatures that we all are
by divine design.
