Dear friends, It is with great joy that our parish welcomes Deacon David Lawrence. Deacon Dave was born in Detroit, Michigan and came to California in 1960. He was ordained a permanent deacon in 2011, and served for a time at St. Paschal Baylon under the pastorship of Fr. David Heney.
Just last month he received his delegation from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to serve here at St. Rose of Lima. His ministry will include the normal deacon duties of preaching, baptizing, and assisting at funerals. Deacon Dave also will be helping out with the R.C.I.A.
I hope all of you will take the time to say hello to Deacon Dave and to welcome him warmly to our parish.
Also, as announced last week, please mark your calendars and to join us for our annual parish BBQ picnic and family movie on Friday, August 24, 2018. Each year, we gather as a parish family to thank God for all His marvelous blessings through the intercession of our patroness, St. Rose of Lima, whose feast day we will celebrate the day before (August 23). We also gather to say thank you for all your contributions of time, talent and treasure this past year. And we will be welcoming back all our school families, especially the new families to our school and parish families. The evening will start with Mass at 5:30 p.m., followed by a free BBQ picnic—all you can eat and drink—a brief video about some of the things that happened in our parish last year, honoring some of our special volunteers with the Golden Rose Awards, and then an outdoor family movie. So, be sure to bring your beach chairs and blankets to sit on the grass for a good old family picnic and drive-in (OK a sit-in!!) theater. I just ask you to call the rectory so we can “guess-timate” how much food and drink to purchase. May God bless Deacon Dave and all of you—I certainly do!

Bereavement Support Group at St. Peter Claver Catholic church for those who have suffered the death of a loved one. You are invited to join a group of like minded people negotiating
each new day without their loved one. Whether you have lost a spouse, a parent, child, sibling or anyone that was a part of your life you will be greeted with sympathy and empathy in a non-judgmental, safe environment. We meet each Tuesday in the Children’s Liturgy Room inside the church from 7-8:30pm

Before the first day of school, parents should take steps to ensure their child’s safety while they’re in the care of teachers and school staff. Meet all the teachers and adults that your children will see regularly. Talk to your kids about basic ground rules for safety, privacy and security.
