Dear friends,
This weekend, our parish welcomes two special people.
The first is our chief shepherd, Archbishop Jose Gomez, who will be with us for the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Sunday, May 21, 2017 to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation for our young people. We are so grateful that he can take time out of his busy schedule to join us for this important
moment in our faith community.
The second is Deacon Chris Ryan and his beautiful wife Kitty who moved from Arlington, Virginia, and just joined our parish a couple of months ago. I am thrilled to have them join our parish family. When you see them, please take the time to introduce yourself and
welcome them. Below is a brief biography.
Deacon Christopher E. “Chris” and Mrs. Kathleen C. “Kitty” Ryan moved to Chatsworth
in January 2017 from the Catholic Diocese of Arlington, Virginia after thirty plus years
living in the Washington, DC and Alexandria, Virginia area. Their move is a homecoming
for Kitty who was born in Van Nuys and grew up in Woodland Halls. She is an attorney
with the Washington, DC law firm Buckley Sandler and practices banking law in the firm’s
Santa Monica office. Chris and Kitty celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in Dec.
2016 and have three adult children: Patrick (age 27), Aidan (age 22), and Maura (age 19).
They have care in their home for Kitty’s elderly widowed mother.
Deacon Chris was born and raised in St. Johnsbury, Vermont; graduated from St.
Johnsbury Academy and Harvard University; and is presently working on an online M.A.
theology degree from St. Joseph’s College in Maine. He is semi-retired to help with the care
of his mother-in-law but continues to regularly write historical articles for his hometown
Vermont newspaper. Ordained to the diaconate on Jan. 14, 2012, Deacon Chris was on the
clergy staff at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Alexandria, Virginia. In addition to his
parish duties, he was active in prison and soup kitchen ministries. He is a lifelong Boston
Red Sox, New England Patriots, and Montreal Canadiens fan but, will root for the Dodgers
and the Rams.
Deacon Chris looks forward to assisting Father Shea, Father Moloney, Father Hidalgo and
his deacon brothers in serving the spiritual needs of the parishioners. Deacon Chris and
Kitty are very grateful for the heartfelt and warm reception that the St. Rose of Lima clergy,
staff, and parishioners have extended to them and they look forward to many years ahead in
this vibrant parish.
God bless them and you.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Joseph Shea

Did you Know?
A review of a young person’s cell phone text messages may provide a parent or caring adult with information such as who your child talks to, where they are going, and what they’re doing. Unfortunately, all of that may be in the past. Today, some new cell phone text messaging services keep cell phone texting activity increasingly private. In order to protect young people, one must stay current and re-connect with ever changing technology. For a copy of the VIRTUS® article “Vanishing, Self-Destructing Texting, and Electronic Communication,” email [email protected] or call 213-637-7227.

A message from Deacon Terry: “A heartfelt thank you for all who made my 40th anniversary as a Deacon so spe-
cial. Special thanks to Fr. Joe & the Cliff Wirtz family for going over the top for me. In the service of Christ, Dn
New England Patriots, and Montereal Canadiens pero esta
