HAPPY FATHER’S DAY Happy Father’s Day! As I mentioned many times in homilies and conversations with parishioners, a day does not go by without thinking about my Mom and Dad. This weekend, of course, as the country celebrates Father’s Day, my Dad is on my mind in a special way. My Dad and I had a wonderful relationship and being the single son, I spent a lot of time with Dad. In many ways Dad became my best friend as Dad got older and I matured. Whether it was fishing, golfing, watching the Phillies and Eagles, laughing at a Seinfeld rerun or waiting for my Mom at a local mall, we spent countless hours together. Dad was also an amazing Grandfather or “Pop-Pop” as he was lovingly known. I can still hear him laughing and singing and stirring up my nieces and nephews with a made-up song or game. We learn from our parents, thus if I learned humility and gentleness from my Mom then my Dad taught me and my siblings to strive for excellence. My Mom would always say her children got their brains from my Dad. My Dad was smart yet did not graduate from high school (he later earned his GED) because he dropped out of school to enter the Army in the closing years of World War II. He desired to go to college after the war but ended up using his GI Bill money to help his poor parents pay off a mortgage. Dad became a Philadelphia Police Officer, married Mom and started a family. He instilled in my brothers and sister the drive for education and service. It is not surprising that all five (5) of us have graduate degrees. Dad believed in us and instilled in us the confidence that we could do whatever we set our minds on. He was so proud when a child or grandchild reached a goal. I remember my Mom saying how she admired that Dad never said a bad word about anyone. That is true, as Dad would always find the best in a person, especially if they were down. Mom and Dad taught us our faith by word and example. Our Catholic faith was in the air we breathed at home. Dad, Happy Father’s Day. Thank you for all you did for me and the family. I miss you and Mom every day. Pray for me from heaven and help me to be a Priest that will make you and Mom proud. Happy Father’s Day! Happy Father’s Day and God Bless you and your Family,
Fr. Vince
Padre Vicente

Stewardship: Known by Stewardship
“Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father.”
Matthew 10:32 Would others know that you are a Catholic Steward by the way you act and speak? Do you share your Catholic faith with others? Do you defend your Catholic faith when the situation arises or do you remain silent? Do you pray in public before meals? Pray for the strength and courage to be a joyful witness of our Catholic faith when the opportunity presents itself. Let us become the radiant light and bold witness that we are called to be!
Fatherhood: When a father gives to his son, both laugh; when a son gives to his father, both cry.
—William Shakespeare
Enthusiasm and Grammar: There is a good reason that the writings of St. Paul don’t show up as examples in grammar textbooks. Today’s reading is a case in point. It begins with one of those long Pauline run on sentences that leave lectors gasping for breath. So what? Take a closer look at how Paul’s fervor for his subject matter derails the grammar. There is something admirable about being so caught up in his convictions that the words cannot come fast enough to express them, much less in an orderly fashion. Scripture scholars usually take this grammatical ineptness as a sign of a passage’s early importance in the Christian community, something they were so ardent about that their language never got refined. What leaves us in this condition? Re-telling the plot line of an action movie or the play-by-play of a sporting event? When was the last time any of us was so excited by our faith in Christ that we were left grasping for words, stumbling over our own errors in speech? It may be bad grammar, but it is an excellent way to inspire others with the message of Christ!
