The Anniversary of D-DayOn June 6, 1944, more than

150,000 Allied troops stormedthe beaches of Normandy,France, in the largestamphibious military operationin history. This year marks the75th anniversary of the historicWorld War II invasion knownas D-Day.

Under the command ofU.S. Army General Dwight D.Eisenhower, the Allied attackcame after two years of planningand preparation to overtakeGerman forces and liberateWestern Europe. A 50-milestretch of coastline in northernFrance was chosen as thelanding site and divided intofive beaches, code-named Utah,Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword.

More than 13,000 airplanesand 5,000 ships and landingcraft carrying American,British and Canadian soldiersdeparted England, crossed theEnglish Channel and invadedNormandy by sea and air inthe early hours of June 6. Byday’s end, it’s estimated that10,000 Allied troops werekilled or wounded.

After gaining a foothold alongthe coast, the Allies advancedinto France and Germany.D-Day is often considered thebeginning of the end of the war.

Share-a-Pet Assisted Therapy

Feather is a mutt, but most likely a Tibetan Terrier mix,at least she looks a lot like one. She is about 20 pounds andnearly 5 years old. She is the most gentle dog I’ve ever met.She loves to roll on her back and wait for people to rub herbelly.

Elisabeth is Feather’s owner. She works a lot from homewhich allows her flexibility for the volunteer activitieswhich she loves. She feels it is wonderful to give back andthat it provides meaning to her daily routine. She loves theoutdoors, especially hiking with Feather, of course, andskiing.

Tenaya is a very mature and determined young lady. Sheis currently enrolled in Middle College at Canada which isa program combining High School and College, basically.She is passionate about Psychology which is already herfavorite subject in class and what she aims to study in thefuture.
