Timed Essay Test• Manilla folder – Write your name, class #

on the tab in pencil.• This test is a “simulation” for the day of

the writing test in March.– The testing day will be conducted in your

homeroom class. –We will be on a special schedule with around

4 hours allotted for this writing test.– It is not a timed test. – All writing is done in pencil.– You will write one of the following types of

essays: Persuasive, Narrative, Summary, or Response to Literature.

This Writing Task:

• You have 2-3 days to write this essay in class.

• All work will be done in class. (Does not go home!)

• Read the prompt carefully!• Use the Planning sheet. Plan, plan, plan

for no less than 30 minutes.• Today, start writing on lined paper.• Remember your mantra! (Take a Stand,

Give me 3, Disprove Opposing Argument)

Step 1: Start with understanding the topic (prompt).

Step 2: Plan your essay. Create a pro/con list. Write your thesis statement. (Goes in intro) Fill out TS, CD, CD, CM, CS for each body paragraph Write your conclusion 3 sentences

Step 3: Start writing on lined paper. Remember 6 paragraphs!

Step 4: Proofread, proofread, proofread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Step 5: Staple the final essay on top of the planning sheet. Line up the holes.
