Be heard in our parish survey! To prepare our OLOS three-year-plan, we want to know about your ideas and hopes for our Catholic community. We will use an online survey to gather your input during this coming month. But do we have your email address to send you the survey? For example, to get our periodic updates through email? If not, please go to our website at olossharon.org and in the Contact section please share your email. You do not need to be a registered parishioner to participate in the survey. If you worship with us, we want to hear from you. Thank you!

Weekly Collection ~ July 22, 2018 The average cost to run the parish is $9,800 per week. Our expectation is that 70% or $7,100 will come from the weekly offertory. Parishioners contributed $ 6,938 for the week ending July 22nd.

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

In June and July of 2017, we held a successful short fund-raising campaign, “Paint the Church, Meet the Match,” which helped us carry out much-needed maintenance and repairs on our buildings at Our Lady of Sorrows.

The need to keep up our facility continues. We are coming to you again with a brief campaign we call “Cool the Lights, Save the Power,” which will last until the annual Mass at the Lake on September 16. Let us explain. The Parish Finance Council explored an agreement with the energy consulting firm Energy Source to redo the lighting on the entire campus. The council agreed this made sense both to save money and energy. The lighting in the church is expensive and hot. Bulbs have to be changed often and in some cases cost more than $50 apiece. They are also difficult and dangerous to change.

Last year’s campaign set a precedent, showing what we can do as a parish community. Raising more than $40,000, we were able to paint the church exterior and make necessary updates in the rectory. With “Cool the Lights, Save the Power,” we estimate the cost at $10,000, which can be paid off over 24 months with a no-interest loan. The cost to do the work is an estimated $36,000 but with incentives and classification as a small business, cost to us is approximately $10,000. While this will put pressure on the budget in the short term, the estimated 60% reduction in energy cost and use seems to be a wise investment. So there is much to do. We appreciate your kind and generous support in the past and hope you’ll be able to help “Cool the Lights, Save the Power.” Thank you and God bless you and yours. ~ Fr. Frank

Catholic at College

Thurs., August 2, 7:00-8:30 PM in O’Connell Hall

All high school graduates and college students welcome. Come for pizza, conversation about what it’s like to be Catholic at college and a chance to catch up with OLOS friends. Angela Howard McParland, who served as the Catholic Campus Minister for Brown University and RISD for ten years will be offering a brief talk and leading discus-sion. Help us order the right amount of food by RSVP-ing to Teresa ([email protected]) by July 30th.

Summer Mission Trips- Great Success

Our young people were amazing these past two weeks as they served others in Jesus' name at local nonprofits (high school students) and at "Just5Days", a mission trip for middle school students.

A huge and hearty thank you to all of the OLOS parishioners who made our trips possible through their prayers, support of our Car Wash fundraiser, and other donations.

Our Faith Formation Director, Teresa Coda was featured in an article in the National Catholic Reporter. She was one of 8 young women gathered at Mount St. Benedict Monastery in Erie, Pennsylvania, for the inaugural Joan Chittister Institute for Contemporary Spirituality: A Feminist Benedictine Option. You can access the article on OLOS website or at www.ncronline.org.
