Winter Festival is hoping for more student vendors on December 7th! No fee for students so please contact Robbi Kesler if you’d like to reserve your space! [email protected] Consider being Friends with ORLA on Facebook! Search for Olympia Regional Learning Academy! All students 12 & older need to sign in at the kiosk in the lobby and put their ID badge on. Several of 2016-2017 12 and older badges have student Key Cards attached. Students can get them from the Office by showing their 2017-18 badges. Our Hour of Code is making a statement that Olympia Regional Learning Academy is ready to teach these foundational 21st-century skills. To continue bringing programming activities to your students, we want to make our Hour of Code event huge. In Room 201 from 3-4 pm (2-3 pm on Wednesday) there will be 30 seats available every day December 4th-6th and we will be doing a new hour of code activity each day. This is for students 3rd- 8th grade. Seats must be reserved to ensure we have enough devices. ORLA Students, Staff, & Parents Demonstrating the ORLA Way...

A GIANT, HUGE, ENORMOUS THANK YOU to hConnect parent, Heather McKenna! Heather dropped everything and

stepped into a classroom today in an emergency so hConnect students could continue to have class rather than having a last minute class cancellation.

And THANK YOU to all the students & families for their respect, awareness, leadership, & ownership in each of the classes... A truly amazing demonstration of supporting one another!

ORLA Tuesday Tidbits

● **Correction**Mark your Calendars for Fifth Grade Outdoor School

○ Our fifth grade Montessori students will be attending Outdoor School at the Cispus Environmental Center in Randle, Washington, May 9th, 10th & 11th. This will be a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday trip. The Center has been developed specifically for student’s environmental studies and has excellent facilities for both study and research.

○ Cost is $150.00 per student. If you need to make payments, please call Cheryl in the office to set up a payment plan. Also, if your student needs to take a prescription or over-the-counter medicine, the medicine and doctors permission form needs to be at school by Friday, May 1st.

● MAST Term 1 Progress Reports are posted under PORTFOLIO in Skyward Family Access. Hard copies are also being sent home.

ORLA iConnect & hConnect News

● Please note that monthly progress will be emailed out on 12/1/17. Parents (or students in grades 9-12) must respond within 48 hours.

● Please remember to check your family mail slot weekly for information being sent home. If you do not have a mail slot, please let the office know.

● Lorana Hoopes is available to give tutorials for learning to use the schoology for the remainder of the semester. Please email her for more information [email protected]. Parents go to www.schoology.com, please refer to the email you were sent from schoology about your account.

● Thank you to the parents who have already signed up! The Toddler Garden & Preschool Treehouse need Parent Leads. The 4 ongoing tasks of a Parent Lead are listed next to the sign-up sheets on the door to each of these rooms.

2 shifts/day: 8:30-12:00 & 12:00-3:15* or whenever the Parent Lead arrives/leaves ORLA

What does a Parent Lead do?

1. Check out key from office to unlock room.

2. Orients new families using the Toddler Garden/Preschool Treehouse to the norms for

cleaning & use (Orientation Guide provided).

3. Communicates with ORLA Office when issues arise or need to be addressed.

4. Closes & locks the door when leaving, unless handing responsibility off to another

Parent Lead.

These rooms need to have PARENT LEADS in order to remain open.

Parent Partnership Hours

Thank you to all our volunteers who day in, and day out, come to ORLA to volunteer with our students. In accordance with the Olympia School District Volunteer policy, all volunteers who work with students, help in the classroom, go on field trips, etc. must be an Olympia School District approved volunteer. Volunteer forms are available online at:https://osd.wednet.edu/community/volunteer

Each hConnect family is required to log 20 Parent Partnership Hours per school year. ParentPartnership Hours for each family can by various family members (parents, grandparents,guardians). The Parent Partnership Log is a black binder located in the Office.

Examples of valid Parent Partnership Hours:* Assisting a teacher (inside or outside of class time)* Helping at PTA events (such as Movie Night, Science Fair, etc.)* Helping at ORLA events (such as Arts Night)

How to log your Parent Partnership Hours1. Fill out a blank log sheet from the front of the Parent Partnership Binder (Please use yourOLDEST student’s name at the top of the sheet.)2. Place your family’s log sheet behind the appropriate tab, alphabetically by your OLDESTstudent’s LAST name.3. This is the log sheet your family will use to log Parent Partnership hours all year. You caneasily see what hours have been logged and keep track of your total hours.4. If your sheet is full, simply fill out and add a second sheet behind it to continue logging hours.5. All adult family members that are at the school can log hours on your family’s log sheet.
