Rule – 1 Preposition + gerund (verb + ing)

A preposition always takes a gerund, not an infinitive.

Preposition के बाद हमशेा gerund का प्रयोग होता ह ैInfinite का नहीं ।

Example –

Lakshya insisted on leaving at once. (Leave + ing = leaving

(Gerund)

There is no harm in repeating the experiment. (Repeat + ing =

Repeating (Gerund)

Note. But or “Except” Used as a preposition takes an infinitive not

a gerund.

Example -

He does noting but / except watch TV all the time.

Rule – 2 No preposition is used before an adverb of Time or

frequency Adverb of Time (Now, Tomorrow, Yesterday, Today

…………..)Adverb of frequency (Daily, Always, Never …………..)

स ेपहले ककसी preposition का use नहीं ककया जाता ह।ै Example -

She goes for a walk every morning.

Note: A number of adverbs denoting Time take a preposition.

कुछ Adverb Time Denote करत ेह ैकिर भी preposition का use ककया जाता

ह।ै

Example – Noun Denoting time.

By now, from now , By tomorrow, from tomorrow , Till today, until

then , Since then, since yesterday

Rule – 3 Generally we do not use any preposition before Adverb of

place (Home, Here, There, Abroad, Above, Below …………)

Example –

They are going home.

He is going Abroad.

Note: - A number of adverbs denoting adverb of place take a

preposition, Noun denoting place.

At home, from home, near home, From here, Over there, From

abroad, From above, From inside, from outside …………
