Host your own event Events or displays run during Psychology Week are a great way to take psychology to the community in fun and interesting ways. They can be open to the public, or for invited guests only, or can be targeted to a specific group such as youths.

APS members, as well as organisations with an interest in psychology and community wellbeing, including schools, universities, workplaces, community health centres and hospitals, are encouraged to run events.

Previous years’ events and other suggestions Some examples of successful Psychology Week events from recent years include:

• A community festival on the Gold Coast that attracted over 1,000 people. There was a range of market stalls, each focused on a different psychological issue, plus activities for children as well as live music.

• An all-day conference in South Australia that attracted over 100 delegates. The event organiser invited psychologists to talk about the role psychology plays in helping people adjust to the online world.

• A public stall in a busy shopping centre on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, gave people an opportunity to talk about mental health and ask questions about psychology.

• An afternoon tea hosted by the APS Northern Territory Branch was an opportunity for students to network with mentors. This gave the students a chance to ask about career paths and ways to secure employment and supervision.

• Many organisations also organise psychology week events for staff, providing resources and tips on stress or hosting expert speakers.
