Of this Khadgamala, the Pure Garland of Shakti, the Sword of Devi,

the Seer is the Sun rising from the Ocean, the Ocean being the Divine Mother; Gayatri is the meter;

passionate Kameshwari sitting on the lap of & in coitus with joyous Kameshwara, is the deity; Aim is the seed; Klim is the power; Souh is the pivot.

Anganyasa, or Body Empowerment(Now that the hands are energized, with those energized hands i am going to energize the whole body,

so that the body becomes empowered and hence authorized to recite the Khadgamala)

for placing the beeja AIM in the heart region. i´m placing my right fist on my chest. imagining it to be energised and made divine by the beeja AIM.1

aià hådayäya namaù.

for placing the beeja KLEEM on the crown of my head. i´m placing the tip of the three fingers – thumb, index and middle joined together – on the crown of my head saying:

kléà çirase svähä.

for placing the beeja SAUH at the place where i have my tuft of hair.i´m placing the fist of my right hand, thumb extended, on the back of my head.2

sauù çikhäyai vañaö.

for encasing myself in the armour of SAUH.i´m crossing my hands across the chest with ring finger bent -- this mudra is called patAkA, the flag –

all fingers extended except the ring finger bent at 90 degrees at the second phlange. Just like a woman that is nude from the waist up would do to cover her breasts, if suddenly someone comes in,

with the palm facing inward and with patAkA mudra as an addition.

sauù kavacäya huà

for placing the beeja KLEEM on the three eyes.3

i´m placing my right hand over my eyes as follows: forefinger on my right eye, middle finger at the place of the third eye and ring finger on my left eye.

kléà netratrayäya vauñaö.

(Continued …)

1 And so on for the other parts of the body in this sequence.2 If you look carefully you will see that the place is about 10 inches from the crown of the head towards the back. But if the position were 10 inches above the head, it would be the place of MahA bindu. This is simply a technicality to be noted at this point; the information becomes more useful later, when one becomes an advanced sadhaka. And anyone who recites the Khadgamala consistently and sincerely will surely reach that stage.3 Note here that humans have only two eyes. Three eyes are for the Mahaa vidyas only. This shows we visualize ourselves as divine.

Anganyasa, or Body Empowerment(Continued)

in order to destroy all blocks to the sadhana with AIM.i´m striking my left upward facing palm with the forefinger and middle finger of the right hand,

so that the sound of an arrow’s release is created, i visualise arrows flying in every direction destroying any negativities in the surrounding that may be waiting to pounce on me,

wanting to stop me from doing sadhana or to snatch away the results of sadhana.

aim asträya phaö.

for protecting my body and the place of sadhana with the beejas “bhoorbhuvaswaraH AUM” so that no negativity can penetrate this protective wall.

i´m snapping my fingers around my head for protection, imagining a wall of fire surrounding me and the place of sadhana,

protecting me from all the negativities in the surrounding, while letting in only positive vibrations,

i´m saying:

bhür-bhuva-svaraù om iti digbandhaù.

Dhyänaà

This is the meditation description of Devi in Her form as Kameshwari, the governing deity of the Khadgamala Stotram.

I conceive Kameshwari Devi as a girl of 16 years.* I imagine Devi to be sitting facing me and all the worship i do to her.

As time goes by i feel that i am HER ray and i am worshipping my source-self. At this stage all duality will disappear and i will realise i am HER part

and at that stage i shall experience the unity of consciousness which is the ultimate aim of this upasana. At first the feeling of unity may be fleeting, but as time goes on it will become my nature,

and then i will continually experience sat-chit-ananda – eternal bliss.* My dhyana is:

“I meditate upon Sri Devi, glowing with red, yellow and blue flames of passion, fanning the arousal of Kameshwara, seated in the center of the triangle called HRIM,

whose three points that are the Three Gurus – Hari, Hara and Virinchi. She wears the Full Moon upon Her crown (SAUH);

Her body is overflowing with KLEEM, the desire for Union with Kameshwara, Lord of Desire. She wears a saree woven of golden threads; She is as fair as nectarine milk and the moonlight; She has three eyes;

and in Her four hands She carries the Book of All Knowledge, the noose, the goad, and a garland of letters. She embodies all that is beautiful, aesthetic, harmonious, joyful and vibrant; and She resides in the Sri Chakra.”

This recitation shall give any reciter the Sword that will empower her/him to be free in the Eighteen Great Islands or the entire Cosmos. In short, it shall remove all obstacles.

Manasa Puja

With the earth beeja LAM, I offer all that is good on earth and everything that is desirable in the world, in the form of good association - satsanga- unto Devi and Kameswara.

So saying, í´m rubbing my ring finger from the root to the top with the tip of my thumb, and in that process i visualise everything offerable to the Devi on Earth, or in the waking state,

anything and everything that is permeated with the earth quality - being offered to Her.I´m sensing the smell of parched earth, freshly soaked in rain, at the tip of my ring finger when i do it.

I actually smell it; and those around me are be able to smell it too.

laà påthivyätmikäyai satsangaà gandhaà parikalpayämi.

With the ether beeja HAM, I offer all of my sensual desires unto Devi in the form of all ethereal flowers; all flowers & all that is beautiful in the world.

Ether is the quality with which one dissolves the sensual desires: taste, smell, sight, touch and hearing. Thus i´m offering Her all that attracts me in the world – through love or hate; sexual or non-sexual attraction;

every sensual pleasure that i can feel with the five senses. Once offered to Her they are no longer mine, and thus i have overcome the sensual pleasures.

Initially this is all immaginary but as time goes by this will become fully real.Thus i´m rubbing my middle finger from root to top with the tip of my thumb, reciting the beeja-mantra:

ham äkäçätmikäyai indriyanigrahaà puñpaà püjayämi.

With the air beeja YAM, I offer everything in the upper-heavens unto Devi.

Sparsha or touch is the effect of the vayu or air beeja. When i rub the index finger with my thumb i feel the gentle touch of love all over my body.

With this i offer all the enemies to sadhana – internal and external – unto Devi so that they will cease to trouble me,

because once i have offered them to Her i have implicitly overcome them.So saying, i rub my index finger from the root upward, with the thumb while saying:

yaà väyvätmikäyai aisvargavisarjanaà sparsham samarpayämi.

Manasa Puja (Continued …)

With the mind beeja RAM, I offer the lamp, representing the mental aspect of the Universe, unto Devi. The lamp is that which lights and hence bestows sight.

With this offering i shall light up the darkness of ignorance and hence gain divine vision capable of perceiving Devi’s form.

With proper visualisation i will be able to light a wick with this mudra while reciting the fire beeja RAM. All mental processes that lead to enlightenment are thus offered unto Devi.

So saying i rub the thumb with the index finger from the root upward, thus giving air to fan the fire.In this process i feel the heat – the precursor of light – permeating my thumb:

raà vahnyätmikäyai citkalätatsvarüpadépam ujvalayämi

With the nectar beeja VAM, I offer all the nectarian qualities in the world, from water unto the Ultimate ,that is Siva in the form of the joint Siva-Shakti aspect,

in the form of sustanance for Devi that gives Her Divine Immanence pleasure. On the esoteric plain it is the Union of Seer and Seen.

The bliss of this Union is offered unto Devi and as a sadhaka i feel that bliss when offering foodstuffs.Saying this, i rub the little finger with my thumb.

vam amruta-raktätmikäyai vasudhä-diçivävasänaà çivaçakti-stävara-svarüpa änandämåta naivedyaà nivedayämi.

With the beeja SAM, I offer to Devi the union of mind with Her in the form of the camphor flame, which leaves nothing behind as residue, and as such represents the Ultimate Union

of the merging my soul´s will, completely in the Absolute Devi. Thus i have offered Devi all that is in the Universe,

all that is contained in the the five elements, and i have ultimately merged my will with Her, becoming One with Her love.

After the offering this camphor-flame at the tip of my thumb, i touch it with the ring finger and apply the heat to my forehead.

This is Shakti tilaka, which grants me the shakti or power of Devi´s love.

saà sarvätmikäyai manolaya-svarüpa änanda karpüra-néräjanaà sandarçayämi.

Manasa Puja (Continued …)

Now that i have become One with the loving will of Devi, i mentally offer her paan, or betel leaves smeared with lime and arecanuts on a beautiful golden plate,

representing all esoteric knowledge, for Her pleasure – which is now also my pleasure.

upaniñad vägbhalaà tämbülaà samarpayämi.

Then i pray: “Oh Great Devi – You are Bala-Tripura-Sundari and also the Great Kameshwari, who is One with the great and original Guru Siva –

may You be pleased with the mentally offered Universe of the five elements. May You be pleased and happy, and grant me Your blessings.”
