    3.5 anartha roots(From Madhurya Kadambini)

    (1) Duskrtottha (anarthas coming from sinful activities)are almost eradicated (prayiki)in the bhajana-kriya stage of devotional servicecompletely absolved (purna)in the developmental stage of nih (steady faith indevotional service), and destroyed absolutelywithout a trace (tyntik) in the stage of sakti,or unwavering attachment to devotional service.

    (2) Sukrtottha (anarthas coming from pious deeds)

    (3) Aparadhottha (anarthas coming from offences)

    (4) Bhaktyuttha (anarthas coming from devotional service)

    eka-deavarttin (partially) in the bhajana-kriya stage;

    purna (completely) in the nih stage; and

    atyantika (absolutely thoroughly) in the ruci stage

    (relishing devotional service)

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The many anarthas stemming from apardhas are
    partially destroyed in the final stages of bhajana-kriya
    (rendering devotional service under the guidance of a spiritual master).
    This is known as eka-deavarttin.
    When bhajana-kriya gains maturity it turns to nih,
    or steadiness, in devotional activities.
    In this stage of development the mitigation of anarthas
    is substantial (bahu-deavarttin); thereafter, on the platform of rati
    (attraction) the unwanted desires in the heart
    are almost completely absolved (prayiki).
    With the first awakening of prema, or divine love,
    these anarthas are completely removed (purna).
    Finally, the anarthas are totally uprooted (tyntik)
    when the devotee receives the mercy and shelter of the Lord's lotus feet.
    3.6 obstacles in bhajan(From Madhurya Kadambini by Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura)
    3.5.1 Laya means the tendency to sleep during kirtana,sravana, and smarana (japa), in order of increasing tendency.3.5.2 Viksepa means distraction toward mundane topicswhile doing devotional service (gossiping while doing japa).
    3.5.3 Apratipatti refers to the occasional inability to absorb the mind
    in kirtana and other services in spite of the absence of laya or viksepa.3.5.4 Kasaya refers to the innate tendency toward such qualitiesas anger, greed and pride.3.5.5 Rasasvada means the inability to absorb the mind in kirtana
    and other services if one gets the opportunityfor the material sense pleasure.
    Nisthita-bhakti appears in the absence of these faults.
