there is no power in the present."

We heard on Sunday that God is the God of our future and that He has planned a future for us. He‟s not improvising with your life, He has a plan and purpose for you - that‟s what Jeremiah 29:11 says: “For I KNOW the plans that I HAVE for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you HOPE and a FUTURE.”

Sometimes our present circumstances can discourage us about our future. Things start to look bleak, gloomy, hopeless. But not to God because God is in control.

Psalm 25:3 says that: “no one whose hope is in you will ever be put to

shame.” What a claim, what a confidence!

You may feel like the flood waters are rising against you, like your whole life is about to be flooded - but there is a sure promise from God for those who put their hope in God - you will not be put to shame. God will not let you down, God will not embarrass you. You can lean on Him and not your own understanding of a situation (Proverbs 3:5) or what your eyes perceive to be happening. Instead put your hope in the God of your future for He has great plans for you and He will bring to completion in you, that which He has started. (Philippians 1:6)

I recently heard the story of a man who told his companions of his experiences in his hometown. The town was to be flooded, as part of a large lake for which a dam was being built. In the months before it was to be flooded, all improvements and repairs in the whole town were cancelled.

What was the use of painting a house if it were to be covered with water in six months? Why repair anything when the whole town was to be wiped out? So, week by week, the whole town became more and more bedraggled, more run down, more derelict.

What the Bible Says

about...

4 MORE VERSES TO ENCOURAGE YOU

1 “I AM STILL CONFIDENT OF THIS: I WILL SEE THE GOODNESS OF THE LORD IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING. WAIT FOR THE LORD; BE STRONG AND TAKE HEART AND WAIT FOR THE LORD.”

PSALM 27:13-14

2 CLAIMING THE CAPITAL FOR JESUS

“WE WAIT IN HOPE FOR THE LORD;

HE IS OUR HELP AND OUR SHIELD. IN HIM OUR HEARTS REJOICE, FOR WE TRUST IN HIS HOLY NAME. MAY YOUR UNFAILING LOVE REST UPON US, O LORD, EVEN AS WE PUT OUR

HOPE IN YOU.” PSALMS 33:20-22

3 “I WAIT FOR THE LORD, MY SOUL

WAITS, AND IN HIS WORD I PUT MY HOPE. MY SOUL WAITS FOR THE LORD MORE THAN WATCHMEN WAIT FOR THE MORNING, MORE THAN WATCHMEN WAIT FOR THE MORNING. O ISRAEL, PUT YOUR HOPE IN THE LORD, FOR WITH THE LORD IS UNFAILING LOVE AND WITH

HIM IS FULL REDEMPTION.” PSALMS 130:5-7

4 “YET THE LORD LONGS TO BE GRACIOUS TO YOU; HE RISES TO SHOW YOU COMPASSION. FOR THE LORD IS A GOD OF JUSTICE. BLESSED ARE ALL WHO WAIT FOR HIM! O PEOPLE OF ZION, WHO LIVE IN JERUSALEM, YOU WILL WEEP NO MORE. HOW GRACIOUS HE WILL BE WHEN YOU CRY FOR HELP! AS SOON AS HE HEARS, HE WILL ANSWER YOU.”

ISAIAH 30:18-19

INSPIRE: Finish the Race

“I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2Timothy 4:7)

Late in the evening of October 20, 1968, during the summer Olympics of that year, a few spectators remained in the Mexico City Olympic Stadium. It was cool and dark. The last of the marathon runners, each exhausted, were being carried off to first-aid stations.

More than an hour earlier, an Ethiopian, Mamo Wolde, had crossed the finishing line, to win the gold medal. As the remaining spectators prepared to leave, those sitting near the marathon gates suddenly heard the sound of sirens and police whistles. All eyes turned to the gate.

Out of the darkness a lone figure

wearing the colours of Tanzania slowly entered the stadium. His name was John Stephen Akhwari. He was the last of the 74 competitors to finish the marathon. His right leg was bloodied and bandaged, having been severely injured in a fall during the race. His knee had been dislocated. Grimacing with each step, Akhwari hobbled around the 400-metre track.

Realising what was happening in front of them, the spectators rose to their feet and applauded him all the way around the track as if he were the winner. After crossing the finishing line, Akhwari slowly limped away. In view of his injury and having had no chance of winning, a reporter asked him why he had not quit. He replied:

“My country did not send me 7,000 miles to start the race. They sent me 7,000 miles to finish it.”

[ STRANGE „Rs‟ IN THE NIGHT ]

OF WORSHIP

Have you ever been in a church gathering and encouraged to “lift up a song to Lord from your heart,” and thought, “how do I do that?”

A tool that helps me to do this is to go through the alphabet and describe Jesus. Simple - and the great thing is I haven‟t run out of combinations: “Jesus you‟re Amazing, Beautiful, the Creator, my Deliverer, the Eternal God…”

Jesus loves it when we worship him and this is a great way to exalt Him. Have a go. I‟ve started you off - Jesus be glorified!

THINK IN PENNIES TAKES GABALFA PRIMARY SCHOOL BY STORM Children, believe it or not, have incredibly generous hearts and a desire to help those less fortunate than themselves. As a church

we believe in the importance of teaching our children about giving and loving those less well-off than ourselves. Every Sunday at Kids Club the children are encouraged to bring their own tithe and offering. Every few months this is then given to a particular cause or charity. Most recently, in November 2010, the children of Kids Club gave over £400 to our family in the Philippines.

Last week All Nations Church launched Think in Pennies within Gabalfa Primary School with the goal of blessing the people of Cuba. We talked very simply and honestly about possessions and what money can buy - they were all stunned to learn that the wages for a days work in Cuba is a bar of soap! Their response has been amazing. The pupils have really risen to the challenge and, in a matter of days each class has already filled their two boxes, with the whole school raising £70! They have already exceeded our expectations. The children at the breakfast club that we help with, have asked if they can donate some of their clothes whilst one of the teachers has

decided that her class will now do a term-long project on Cuba. Furthermore, they have asked All Nations Church to help her in planning lessons. God has opened a door into Gabalfa Primary School. Teaching these children not only about the importance of giving but also about the world beyond their estate, has been a great success. Work continues into the school and our

relationship with them is growing strong. Please pray for us that every week we will have more and more opportunities to claim this capital for Jesus. If you would like to be involved in any way with this wonderful ministry please contact Jez Davey by email at: jdavey@ allnationschurch.org.uk

This Sunday, 6th February, we will be taking up our TIP collection. Please bring along your Think In Pennies boxes and all the pennies you can find - they really make a difference.
