The current Parish Pastoral Council was appointed in November 2012 to a three year term. Diocesan guidelines suggest that after three years council members discern through prayer and reflection if they will continue to serve on the Council and pursue it’s mission of consulting and advising our Pastor on the implementation of our parish pastoral plan and all issues that reflect on the life of the parish.

Three council members; Katharine Joseph, Yolanda Ward and Carl Moore, will not be continuing on the council. We thank them for their service. Six new parishioners will be appointed to the Council by the Pastor and installed at the 9:30 AM Mass this Sunday, January 10, 2016: Mariana Lozito, Rhea Lange, Rebecca Torres, Eric Verstehdt, Rudy Kandial and Fernando Silva.

These persons were nominated by current council members and after prayer, discernment and orientation ac-cepted the call. Council membership continues to reflect the diversity of our parish. Please pray for the new and current council members that their deliberations during 2016 reflect the grace and wisdom of the Holy Spirit and St. Louis de Montfort.

Jubilee Year of MercyFeast of the Baptism of the Lord

Fittingly, this Jubilee Year of Mercy is also the Lection-ary’s Year of Luke, for Luke’s Gospel highlights God’s mercy in finding the lost, healing the sick, restoring the broken, comforting the sorrowful, forgiving the sinner through Jesus’ ministry. But before doing, Luke’s Jesus is always praying. As practical moderns programmed to measure worth by productivity, we instinctively appreci-ate the Jubilee’s call to embrace the practical challenges of our baptism. But today Luke focuses not on Jesus be-ing baptized, but on Jesus praying after baptism. So must we pray to become the disciples we are called to be, that the Spirit empower us to do what disciples are called to do. Imitating Jesus’ openness to the Spirit will enable us to cooperate with the grace that transforms us into “be-loved sons [and daughters] . . . in whom the Father is well pleased,” living out, in this Jubilee Year of Mercy, the extraordinary potential of our baptism.—Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. Año Jubilar de la MisericordiaFiesta del Bautismo del Señor
