Swimming pools and wellness centres,
fitness studios and saunas are places of
communication in our modern society.
Different generations meet there with the
desire to relax and have fun. These require-
ments are also reflected in the architectural
design. The new concepts play with
individual shapes, with harmonious
colours and surfaces and with unmis-
takable accents. In this way an architecture
is created that can be experienced.
Aesthetics and design make architecture
unique. A basic requirement for a successful
long term solution however, is functional,
durable and low maintenance materials.
The Agrob Buchtal range of architectural
products has been developed to meet the
highest design and functional standards.
The range is wide offering diverse design
possibilities whilst high quality raw
materials and manu-facturing know-how
ensure product longevity.

SwimmingSwimming pools are no longer just for
swimming. Modern sports and leisure
pools are exciting adventure worlds,
which offer visitors diverse experiences.
White-water channels flow into generous
outdoor pools, whirlpools and relaxation
zones complement imaginatively designed
childrens playing areas. Agrob Buchtal
ceramic products enable a combination
of function and aesthetics thereby
releasing creativity.

Ceramic pools
Ceramic swimming pools are something
for individualists: They offer immense
scope regarding design, optimal slip resis-
tance, are durable, hygienic, economical
and aesthetic.
Water inflow system Vertical Macro
This innovative water inflow system feeds
treated water through the pool floor and
in this way quickly transports floating par-
ticles towards the overflow channel. At
the same time, added disinfectants are
thoroughly diluted and temperature
variations are prevented.
Special pieces
Using special pieces, visions become reality.
Pool edging tiles, grooved tiles and cover
gratings are available in diverse versions
and colours.
Slip resistance
Continuous transitions from one slip-resis-
tance level to another. Agrob Buchtal
offers solutions for all slip-resistance valu-
ation groups in wet barefoot areas (A, B
and C).
Hydrotect *
Absolute hygiene has priority in swimming
pools. The Hydrotect surface coating not
only makes tiles extremely easy to clean,
but also has an antibacterial effect: Fungi,
germs and bacteria are decomposed and
the formation of new pathogenes is
prevented.
Low-noise channel Wiesbaden Silent **
To reduce the noise caused by the water
drainage, Agrob Buchtal developed a
low-noise channel. The noise level is
considerably reduced – and the quality of
relaxation is improved.
* For Hydrotect, also see page 30.
** For the low-noise channel, see pages 12 and 23.

Pool Edge Systems
Ground breaking architecture is, amongst
other things, a question of technique.
Agrob Buchtal has help set new standards
in this field by developing products such
as the patented low-noise Wiesbaden
Silent channel, which reduces the noise
level caused by water circulation by 10 dB.

Showers and Changing Rooms
Combining hygiene and slip resistance is
a challenge. Dirt is transported on the
shoes of pedestrians through the entrance
area to the changing rooms where guests
walk barefooted through the shower areas
towards the pool. Stairs and steps provide
additional problems. The appropriate
products can be found within the Agrob
Buchtal range ensuring that the functional
and the aesthetical requirements are met.
Colour schemes matching floor and wall
surfaces and covering different functional
areas are possible.
Special system solutions such as the
shower tub system for barrier-free building
optimize comfort and space usage.
Ceramic shower tubs are level with the
floor surface to allow senior citizens and
handicapped people to shower securely.
The shower areas become easily accessible
for wheel-chair ridden people. And the
appropriate slip resistance is achieved.
The shower tub system meets the
requirements of DIN 18024 for barrier-free
building and has been awarded the
“Barrier-free-DIN tested” symbol. Further-
more, the Hydrotect *-coated surface
improves hygiene and ensures easy
cleaning. A wide range of colours and
sizes are available as standard products.
* For Hydrotect, also see page 30.

Series Chroma II
The Chroma series is probably the most
successful internationally established tile
range in the world. The colour range has
been revamped to reflect modern archi-
tectural trends and is coated with the
unique Hydrotect * surface treatment.
The classical pool colours i.e. blue, green
and turquoise remain a standard within
the range. The spectrum ranges from
light to dark, from glossy to matt and
from pastel shades to intense colours.
New colours have been adopted to reflect
the more recent project requirements. Pool
surrounds are often designed in warm
grey and sand shades to create a beach
like impression. Soft terracotta and earth
colours which can be included in the
walls and surrounding areas create a
natural environment.
The success of Chroma has been based
on the wide range of standard colours
and sizes which are modular and com-
binable. The new range allows the Chroma
System to combine with the Plural System
so that also mosaics in 2.5, 5 and 10 cm
sizes can be integrated in the design.
Thereby allowing pools and adjoining areas
to be designed in an integrated fashion.

WellnessThe European wellness trend is based on
the principles of relaxation technique and
environment. The creation of an en-
vironment which is experienced using all
senses: colours and shapes, structures
and surfaces, sounds and smells. Total
emerged relaxation. Agrob Buchtal pro-
vides a range of products to support this
concept allowing the combination of
ceramics with other materials such as
wood and glass. Matt, smooth and
structured tile surfaces provide a visual
change while vigorous signal colours
complement soft, natural colours.

Experience Oases
Roman thermal baths, Turkish hamam
baths or Finnish saunas – the models for
wellness oases can be found in all parts of
the world. The modern trend has avoided
copying but rather interpreted and
adapted the designs to create new con-
cepts. Often diverse concepts are realized
in one and the same project: the oriental
steam bath, the Japanes Zen temple, the
fango massage area and the Ayurveda
centre.

Relaxation in Light and Space
For real relaxation, one aspect is indispens-
able: an environment free of disturbing
influences. That’s why Agrob Buchtal de-
veloped the low-noise channel Wiesbaden
Silent for swimming pools. The complex
combination of the specially shaped low-
noise channel, the arrangement of the
cover gratings and an intelligent ventila-
tion system in the outlet ensures noise level
reduction of 10 decibels. The human ear
perceives this difference as a halving of
the noise level.
The products from Agrob Buchtal provide
ideal preconditions for the latest wellness
concept: Liquid Sound®. Using loud-
speakers above and below water level
music is played while people bath creating
a new experience for guests. Combining
music and light with the colour concept
of the tiles creates a unique and relaxing
atmosphere.

Training
In fitness studios, the workout comes first.
Muscle and fitness training on diverse
apparatus, aerobics or spinning. After the
sport, refreshment begins under the
shower. The wall and floor coverings in
these areas also must be robust. Minimum
maintenance is required as well as slip
resistance and absolute hygiene, because
training can be enjoyed only in a really
clean and attractive ambience.
At the same time, fitness centres are also
a meeting place where people meet to
workout and relax in the sauna or at the
bar. Consequently, the wall and floor tiles
must fulfill an aesthetical requirement.
Products from Agrob Buchtal satisfy these
requirements. The ceramic wall and floor
coverings meet high functional and design
standards. They are resistant to acids, to
cleaning agents and disinfectants and are
environmentally friendly. In addition, they
guarantee optimal slip resistance in bare-
foot and wet areas.

Enjoy
Security through slip resistance is an
integral part of any leisure area concept.
Whether a snack bar by a swimming
pool, a bistro in a fitness studio or a
catering area for barefoot and shoed
guests. Where food is prepared and sold
both guests and personnel need sure
footing. The easy clean surfaces of Agrob
Buchtal products contribute to safety
since residues of meals and spilled drinks
can be cleaned easily. The ranges provide
a wide selection of colours and sizes and
are modular to allow total colour concepts
to be realized.
Water
Dirt
Hydrotect
Hydrotect proves valuable in all areas
where utmost hygiene is required. The
surface coating for wall and floor tiles offers
three important advantages:
• it has an antibacterial effect *
• it is extremely easy to clean
• it eliminates disagreeable odours
The effects are based on the principle of
photocatalysis. The catalyst, titanium
oxide, is fired into the glaze and facilitates
a reaction between light, oxygen and hu-
midity. In this process, oxygen molecules
become activated decomposing bacteria,
fungi, algae and moss.
Hydrotect-coated tile surfaces are hy-
drophilic: as opposed to repelling water,
the reaction relieves surface tension
thereby inhibiting the creation of globules
of water and transforming the water into
a fine film which spreads behind dirt lifting
it from the tile surface.
In addition, Hydrotect decomposes the
exhaust fumes created by industry and
cars. Scientific analyses prove that a
Hydrotect facade surface of 1000 m2
cleans the air as effectively as 70 medium-
sized deciduous trees. The coating, which
is unique in this form, is practically
indestructible. The photocatalytic effect
already activated by normal indoor lighting
or natural light is permanently conserved.
For further information, please order our
Hydrotect special brochure.
With Hydrotect, dirt is washed down by the water and can then be easily wiped off.
