Spring has sprung and summer is on its way, thank goodness. I am not a winter girlat all.
I hope you all managed to get through winter with only the odd sniffle.
Digital Stories
In August we had the opportunity to support Anton, our son, to create a secondDigital Story. This is such an emotional experience but very rewarding. It is a way toshare the journey we have lived since Anton’s birth and share how we haveendeavoured to make it as ordinary and meaningful for him as possible.
15+ people from Interactionz community have produced a digital story so far. Thisincludes some of the staff. The stories have been about the journey of theorganisation and personal journeys. Some of these were shared at the Film Festivalin September last year, some at the Soup and Buns event in June this year andmore recently four were shown at the Film Festival event held at the PlayhouseTheatre at the University in September this year.
The Disability Pride Film FestivalThe festival had a different format this year. There was the Claymation movie Maryand Max shown at the Lido theatre and the combined evening at the university withGracelands, Autism Waikato, IDEA Services, Media group from Waikato Universityand Interactionz. I hope those of you who attended the evening at the university orthe Lido theatre enjoyed your night out. Many thanks for your support of theseevents.
Alzheimer’s Cuppa for a Cause in August
This was a fundraising and awareness promotion of this illness. I provided themorning tea for each of Interactionz Centres and the office, and people paid a goldcoin donation for it. Approximately $100 was raised. Dementia is an illness that canaffect anyone. Thank you for your support.
Interactionz Vision StatementThe Board of Interactionz have reworded the Vision Statement so that it betterreflects the values of Interactionz:

No One Alone ConferenceIn September Anton and I did a presentation at the No One Alone conference held inAuckland. This was an opportunity to share our journey, highs and lows, and a lot oflearning, with others who we hoped would be inspired to try new ways to create agood life for their family member with a disability. We were lucky enough to have anhour and a half time slot, which was great as we had a lot to share. We have
received very positive feedback from those who attended our session. We achievedour goal of inspiring some families who have made further inquiriesabout Circles of Friends, Individualised Funding and just to pick mybrain a bit deeper about how we did certain things to create Anton’sliving situation, which is Anton living in his own home, a familysharing it with him and providing his support with IndividualisedFunding.
