    1 OBJET :

    SECTION 1E - ENGLISH

    1 SUBJECT:

The present instruction concerns piping hydrostatic tests prior to operation.

It covers, in general, all piping assembled on the gas turbine and accessories bases and all interconnectionpiping for gas turbine frame 9E.

Instructions for the functional testing of each of the individual systems involved are covered in model listitems 0202 and 0203, test instructions for accessories and control respectively.

Following are the requirements for the testing of piping.

    2 GENERAL POINTS:

2.1 Definition of hydrostatic and pneumatic tests

Piping hydrostatic and pneumatic tests are :

Hydraulic test: carried out at 1.5*times the nominal design pressure, with a liquid, compressedair or inert gas (*refer to the formula here below). They guaranty the mechanical integrity of thepiping.

This pneumatic test is an alternative to hydraulic test (see 4.2).

Leak test: carried out with compressed air at low pressure, usually at pressure lower than pipingnominal design pressure, to verify the piping after reconfiguring.

    2.2 General point

Piping hydrostatic tests shall be performed in accordance with ASME B31.3.Piping hydraulic test is required with the exception that specific hydrostatic tests or 100% radiography ofall welded joints may be substituted where hydrostatic tests are impractical according to Europeandirective 97/23 3.2.2.

Refer to 3.5 (current specification) for further details.

The pressure test values for hydraulic or pneumatic tests are listed in table 1 here after. All the pressurevalues given in the present document are gage pressure. Absolute pressures are identified by bar abs. orpsia.

Hydraulic (or pneumatic) test shall be done before flushing. The intent of this requirements is to allowleaks detection, if any, and make the necessary repairs prior to cleaning the systems.

    3 HYDRAULIC TEST:

    3.1 Pressure test value

    Pressure values shown on table 1 are defined by:P test value = P x 1.5 x S/St

P = Maximum operation pressure (bar)S = Steel allowable stress at ambient temperature (ASME B31.3 table A.1)St = Steel allowable stress at maximum operation temperature (ASME B31.3 table A.1)

Pressure values are given for a test fluid at temperature between 4C (39F) and 37C (100F).

    3.2 Fluid for testing

Hydraulic test is carried out using drinking water or fluid identified in table 1.

    3.3 Test condition

Hydraulic test happens at the end of piping manufacturing and welding, on piping section or full systempiping with valves, instrumentation and bellows (if necessary) removed.

Flanges connections on pipe are to be blanked off with appropriate blind flanges. Treaded connectionsare to be plugged with appropriate steel plugs.

Hydraulic test duration is 30 minutes.

    3.4 Test result

No pressure variation is permitted during the duration of the test except due to atmospheric conditionsvariation: pressure and/or temperature. No leak is permitted. If test pressure drops for piping leakage it

shall be repaired and the test repeated.

A comprehensive test report of hydraulic test shall be issued for each piping or length of piping involved.. As a minimum, the test report shall include the date of the test, the test pressure at the beginning of thetest, the test pressure at the end of the test, the duration of the test, the inspectors name and the testedpiping reference.

    3.5 If tests are impractical

If the test is impractical for technical reasons and in order to reach a security level similar, it is required:

-the voucher justifying the impracticability-100% visual test of weldings

-100% liquid penetrant test or magnetic particle tests-10% X-ray or ultra-sound, for components which do not need particular care (ex : low-pressure fluidsexcept gas and fuel)-100% X-ray or ultra-sound for components which need a particular care or built on site. (ex : gas, hotpiping under high-pressure such as exhaust air, bleed heating, etc

    4 PNEUMATIC TESTS

4.1 FYI : Pressure test value according to ASME code

According to ASME B31.3, the pressure values shown on table 1 are defined by :

    P test value = P x 1.1

P = Maximum operation pressure (bar)

Further to the issue of CLAP form 264, (CLAP = Comit de Liaison des Appareils Pression), this 4.1 isnot in force, and 4.2 hereafter must be taken into account.

4.2 Pressure test value according to PED instructions

According to CLAP form n264 I, version 1 published under Orientation 8/16, of 2005, January 19th,values given in appendix 1 7.4 of European Directives 97/23 CE of 1997, May, 29 thshall be used for thepneumatic test pressure.

I.E. the pneumatic pressure values are similar to the ones of the hydraulic tests.

    4.3 Duration

Pneumatic test is carried out with compressed air or inert gas in the same conditions as 3.3 above, except for the duration: 10 minutes.

    4.4 Test condition

Whether the test is pneumatic or hydraulic, when the pressure value can not be the one defined inappendix 1 7.4, additional measures shall be taken to check the behaviour under pressure, tightnessincluded (see CLAP 159 orientation 5/3).

4.5 The pneumatic test is very hazardous

The pneumatic test is very hazardous and requires particular cares. It is usually not used. It is givenhere for information.

    5 LEAK TEST

Leak test is carried out after hydraulic test on a system piping to check circuit tightness at piping flanges, connections, couplings and gaskets.

Leak test is optional and in any case do not supersede hydraulic test

Leak test is applicable only on piping where hydraulic pressure test value is higher than leak test pressuredefined here below.

5.1 Pressure test value and test fluid

Pressure test value is 3,4 0,2 bar (50 3 psi), test fluid is compressed air.

    5.2 Test condition

Leak test is carried out on a system fully assembled including the components. Valves are open to allowcompressed air to flow through. End of piping are blanked using blank flange or adequate means tosupport the test pressure and are free of leak.

    Test duration is 15 minutes.

    5.3 Test result

Leak test is acceptable if air leakage is lower than 5 ml/min (5 Ncm3/min)

e.g. : this is corresponding to same pressure value at the end of the test (3.4 bar) as at the beginning (3.4bar) for a piping volume lower than 20 liters (0.235 gallon) with no atmospheric condition variation.
