  • 100+ FUNKY SOUNDS

    for Repro-1 and Repro-5

    by Howard Scarr
 HECKMANN AUDIO GMBH — BERLIN

  • Thank you for purchasing the FUNKSTATION soundset for u-he Repro.

Funkstation: Old school sounds inspired by Parliament-Funkadelic, The Gap Band, Midnight Star and the many artists who embraced synthesizers in the Funk music scene of the '70s and ‘80s. This set includes many a nod to keyboard greats such as Bernie Worrell, Stevie Wonder, George Duke and others who were responsible for dis-covering and refining the funky side of synthesis.

So you have all the right ingredients: juicy leads, meaty basses, filtery polyphonic stabs and analogue pads... everything you need to create some SERIOUS synth-funk!

We hope you will enjoy playing these sounds, and put them to good use in your music.

    Installation

Apart from the separate folders for Repro-1 and Repro-5, FUNKSTATION comes in two different formats: The Funkstation-1 and Funkstation-5 folders contain normal .h2p files which are recognized in the respective plug-in’s browser, while the Funkstation-1 (NKS) and Funkstation-5 (NKS) folders contain Native Kontrol Standard files. If in doubt, please install the regular version only.

Regular versions You can install FUNKSTATION anywhere within Repro’s ‘Local’ or ‘User’ (preferred) folders. Here’s the best method:

    1) Load an instance of Repro-1 and click on the PRESETS button

    2) In the ‘Directory’ panel, right-click on ‘User’ and select ‘reveal in Finder’ (Mac) or

    ‘open in Explorer’ (PC)

    3) Copy the Funkstation-1 folder into the ‘Repro-1’ folder you have just revealed

    4) Back in Repro-1’s own browser, right-click on ‘User’ again and select ‘refresh’

    5) Repeat steps 1-4 but with Repro-5 / Funkstation-5

    NKS versions

Copy the folder “Funkstation-1 (NKS)” into the following location:

    Windows (YOUR PLUG-IN PATH) \u-he\Repro-1.data\NKS\Repro-1
..........macOS MacHD/Library/Application Support/u-he/Repro-1/NKS/Repro-1.............

Then copy the folder “Funkstation-5 (NKS)” into the following location:

    Windows (YOUR PLUG-IN PATH) \u-he\Repro-1.data\NKS\Repro-5\
..........macOS MacHD/Library/Application Support/u-he/Repro-1/NKS/Repro-5 .............

Alternatively, select Repro-1 / Repro-5 in your Komplete Kontrol host, right-click on the search result list and select "Find in Explorer/Finder" to open the NKS presets folder.

  • Performance Control

All FUNKSTATION presets include MIDI performance control, which has been carefully programmed so you can create subtle to dramatic ‘morphing’ effects using pressure and/or the lefthand controls on your MIDI keyboard.

The performance controls used in each preset are listed (under USAGE) in the Repro browser’s PRESET INFO panel. While auditioning presets, please make a habit of checking this information and trying out any/all controls mentioned there.

PB Pitch Bender, the centre-sprung wheel (joystick or lever). Although most Funkstation presets use this for pitch control, a few of them apply the control to other parameters.

MW Modulation Wheel (MIDI CC 1), the rotary control on the left of most MIDI keyboards (others have a joystick or lever there instead).

BR Breath control (MIDI CC 2). Not as important as the modulation wheel, but we recommend that you set up the most convenient knob/slider on your hardware MIDI controller to send CC number 2.

Watch out for this one in the PRESET INFO!

AT Aftertouch is often missing in consumer-grade MIDI keyboards. If your key-board cannot send aftertouch directly, please check whether you can simulate it via knob/slider. Failing that, check whether your host application offers a function to translate regular CC data into channel pressure.
