10 luật dấu nhấn:1. Nhấn vào vần gốc đối với các từ có thêm tiền tố, hậu tố.

+ Teacher [ 'ti: t∫ə]+ unhappy [ nhappy] ʌ

2. Thường nhấn vào vần đầu đối với danh từ và tính từ 2 hoặc 3 âm tiết.+ Human+ Company+ Lucky+ Difficult

3. Thường nhấn vào vần 3 kể từ sau lên với những từ hơn 3 âm tiết

+ International [ intə'næ∫enl ]+ American [əmerikən]

4. Thường nhấn vào vần 2 kể từ sau lên đối với các từ có đuôi:

ion, ian, ic, ive, ial, tal, cient, tient.+ invention [in'ven∫n]+ electric [i' lektrik]

5. Thường nhấn vào vần cuối với những từ có đuôi:eer, ese, ee, een, oo, oon, ade, ette, ain, naire, self, isque, esque.

+ Career [kə'riə]+ Chinese [t∫ai'ni:z]

6. Thường nhấn vào vần đầu với danh từ có tiền tố tele

+telephone ['telefəun]7. Danh từ ghép thường nhấn vào vần đầu

+ school-boy ['sku:lboy]8. Thường nhấn vào vần đầu đối với động từ 2 âm tiết mà tận cùng bằng các đuôi:

en, er, el, le, ow, ish.9. Thường nhấn vào vần 2 đối với động từ 2 âm tiết mà tận cùng bằng các đuôi:

ade, ide, ode, ude, mit, ect, ent, ceive, duce, form, port, nounce, pose, press,scribe, solve, volve, voke, y.

+ Invade [in'veid]+ divide [di'vaid]+ Expect [iks'pekt]

10. Không thay đổi dấu nhấn cũ đối với từ có hậu tố sau:

er,ly, ness, ing, less, hood, ship, some, ful, ed, dom.

+ traveler ['trævlə]+ happily ['hæpili]



Note: Ngoài các quy luật trên, các trường hợp còn là ngoại lệ

Rules of Word Stress in EnglishThere are two very simple rules about word stress:1. One word has only one stress.2. We can only stress vowels, not consonants. ________________________________________ Here are some more, rather complicated, rules that can help you understand where to putthe stress. But do not rely on them too much, because there are many exceptions. It is better to try to "feel" the music of the language and to add the stress naturally.

1. Nhấn vào âm tiết đầu

– Most 2-syllable nouns:e.g: PRESent, EXport, CHIna, TAble – Most 2-syllable adjectives:e.g: PRESent, SLENder, CLEVer, HAPpy

2. Nhấn vào âm tiết cuối – Most 2-syllable verbs:e.g: to preSENT, to exPORT, to deCIDE, to beGIN

3. Nhấn vào âm tiết thứ hai tính từ cuối – Words ending in -ic:e.g: GRAPHic, geoGRAPHic, geoLOGic – Words ending in -sion and -tion:e.g: contriBUtion, reveLAtion Ngoại lệ: TElevision, CAtholic

4. Nhấn vào âm tiết thứ 3 tính từ cuối – Words ending in -cy, -ty, -phy and -gy:e.g: deMOcracy, dependaBIlity, phoTOgraphy, geOLogy – Words ending in -al:e.g: CRItical, geoLOGical

5. Từ ghép – For compound nouns, the stress is on the first part:e.g: BLACKbird, GREENhouse – For compound adjectives, the stress is on the second part:e.g: bad-TEMpered, old-FASHioned – For compound verbs, the stress is on the second part:e.g: to underSTAND, to overflow



Với những từ có 2 âm tiết :- Động từ : trọng âm rơi vào tiếng thứ 2Ex : de'stroy pe'rmit

- Danh từ, Tính từ , Trạng từ : trọng âm rơi vào tiếng đầu tiên

Ex : do'ctor

- Những từ có 3 âm tiết trở lên thì trọng âm rơi vào tiếng thứ 3 từ phải sang tràiEx : geography -> geo'graphy

- Các từ có tận cùng là : tion , sion, ity,ety,ic,ical,ous,ian,al thì trọng âm rơi trước nhữngtừ nàyEx : preparation -> prepara'tion

- Các từ có tận cùng là : ese,ee,eer,oo,oon,ique,ed,esque thì trọng âm rơi vào những từ

nàyEx : Vietnamese' , employee'

- Một số tiền tố và hậu tố ko ảnh hưởng đến trọng âm . Lúc đó ta phải xét đến từ gốc : re ,dis,un,in,il,im,ir,ing,ful,ness,less,able,uos,ly,m ent.Ex : Từ : uncomfortable -> xét từ : comfort ( bỏ từ "un" và " able" ) đây là tính từ có 2 âmtiết nên trọng âm ở tiếng đầu tiên .:evil: :twisted:
