Visit the Sovereign Hill Education webpage and click on the link http://education.sovereignhill.com. au/excursion-planning/social-stories/ Avoiding Loud Noises Parents/Guardians/Carers should note that the following daily activities involve loud noises: Musket Firing 11.35 - 11.45 am & 3.05 - 3.15 pm (Visitor Map No. 19) Redcoat Soldiers 1.30 - 1.40 pm (Visitor Map No. 34) Steam Operations Whistle: 9.45 am, 9.55 am, 10.15 am, 12 noon, 1.00 pm, 3.00 pm, 3.15 pm. (Visitor Map No. 34) Steam-Powered Machinery All day. (Visitor Map No. 34 and No. 44) Voltaic Battery 4.00 pm. (Visitor Map No. 19) You may wish to visit the Theatre Retiring Room (Visitor Map No. 26 upstairs) or Cottages in Speedwell Street (Visitor Map No. 43) if these noises are likely to be disturbing. Special Advice Visitors are welcome to bring their own torches for use during mine tours. If parents get lost, children should tell a costumed member of staff straight away. Staff will assist lost parents by getting them to the Post Office (Visitor Map No. 16) where they will be reunited with their children. Coach rides cannot stop during the trip so it’s a good idea to watch the coach do a few laps first to see if it is something you would like to do. Drinking taps are hidden in wooden barrels around Sovereign Hill. Gold Panning at the creek is a very soothing activity. PROGRAM Arrival 10.00 am - 11.30 am Arrival at Sovereign Hill during this time will enable visitors to avoid the crowded entrance and enter via the side gate. Our guests will receive wrist bands where parents can write contact details, and yes, teddy bears get their own bands too! Meet and Greet 10.30 am and 12.00 noon Come and meet the trooper who will explain all about his costume and his job at Sovereign Hill. Carver & Dalton Auction Rooms (Visitor Map No. 10) Mine Tour – Labyrinth of Gold 11.20 am, 1.00 pm, 1.20 pm and 2.40 pm These mine tours are specifically booked for Autism-Awareness Day visitors. In this 40 minute tour, mine guides will warn visitors of any loud noises (and avoid them where possible). The Social Story – The Inclined Rail – is a must read before doing the mine tour. Please note mine tours are an additional cost. A family ticket (2 adults and 4 children) is $20. Book your mine tour early to avoid disappointment (Visitor Map No. 35). Quiet Places For a quiet break from the crowd, there are several areas available: Upstairs at the Victoria Theatre (Visitor Map No. 26), Cottages in Speedwell Street (Visitor Map No. 43), Wesleyan Church (between Visitor Map No. 38 and 40), around the Post Office Lake (to the right as you enter Sovereign Hill.) Avoiding Loud NoisesParents/Guardians/Carers should note that the following daily activities involve loud noises:
