• 6 luxury villas• Africa’s 2nd biggest wildebeest migration• Good hyena population• Superb for photographers & birders• Large herds of zebra & red lechwe• Famous Lady Liuwa lioness & pride

King Lewanika Lodge is situated with sweeping vistas over seasonally flooded grasslands, dotted with tree islands, pans and rivers. One of Africa’s oldest conservation areas, this is a remote landscape with vast flat plains, wide-open spaces and spectacular skies. Off the beaten track and rarely visited it offers a deep sense of peace and tranquillity and is ideally suited for second-timers, or those looking for a different safari experience. Liuwa is the only park where villages are found within the borders – having retained utilisation rights - and people and animals co-habit successfully. Designed by acclaimed lodge architects, the property comprises 6 luxury villas, including a two-bedroomed family villa and is the only permanent camp in the national park. Wildlife is excellent with a massive wildebeest migration and unique animal behaviours - hyenas hunting in clans of up to 50 strong. Birdlife is excellent year-round and huge flocks of crowned cranes, saddle-billed storks and endangered wattle cranes may be seen. Seasonal mokoro excursions (water-levels depending) and game drives are conducted in search of the wild inhabitants.

Time + Tide Chongwe fast facts

• 9 classic tents & 2 suites• Riverbank setting with scenic views• Open-sided, comfortable main areas• Wildlife hide overlooking waterhole• Pool• Game viewing, boating, walking & fishing

Located in Zambia’s Lower Zambezi Valley in the Chiawa Partnership Park (GMA) that borders the Lower Zambezi National Park is one of the most established Lower Zambezi camps, Chongwe River Camp. This tented camp is nestled along the river bank beneath a canopy of winterthorns at the confluence of the Zambezi and Chongwe Rivers with breathtaking views and quite often, elephant in camp. Chongwe River Camp has nine classic tents under thatch and two private tented “suites” the Albida (two-bedroomed) and the Cassia (one bedroom honeymoon). Tented suites feature private, shaded outdoor bathrooms with a free-standing bath and shower and a verandah with views across the river. Chongwe is relaxed and comfortable, a home away from home and a place to unwind and switch off. Camp communal areas are shaded by canvas and open-sided, letting nature through at its leisure. There is plenty of seating with plush cushions, a “mess” or eating area, an open sandy campfire next to the river and a swimming pool. The "termite mound" wildlife hide overlooks a waterhole and offers a great place to watch for game, from comfy seating.Activities offered at Chongwe include game viewing by vehicle in the Lower Zambezi National Park (a short drive from camp) or the Chiawa Partnership Park, game viewing by boat on the Zambezi, canoeing, walking, fishing and community visits (on request).
