go to Ms Robyn Blackwell for her exceptional teaching, training and
organizational skills in the preparation of these types of events. I am
happy to attach a letter from the North Coast Ball Club that I received
this week and yes, we are proud of our Ms Blackwell and students!

Faction Cross Country
Another fine example of our Ms Blackwell’s organizational skills was the success of our Faction Cross Country
event on Wednesday. We are happy to announce that a long standing record has been broken. Since 2011 when
Ms Blackwell commenced at this school, she has been keeping records on the times of our cross country
students. This year Ben P from Year 6 and Ethan D from Year 2 have broken the existing times. Well done boys!

Merit Certificate Recipients
Congratulations to the following students for receiving a Merit Certificate at today’s assembly:-
From the School Psychologist
I had the opportunity to run the 3rd Triple P Seminar to parents on Monday 6 May. The title was Raising Resilient Children. We covered topics like: recognising and accepting feelings, expressing feelings appropriately, building a positive outlook, developing coping skills, dealing with negative feelings and stressful life events. Was a group of very engaged, positive and committed parents who gave feedback that they found the seminar interesting and worthwhile. Parents could attend 1, 2 or all 3 seminars. Teaching good mental health habits starts young and involves all of us. The good news is that there are simple skills which can be easily taught and modelled which make a big difference!

Scoliosis
We mentioned in our last newsletter that The Spine Society of Australia (an affiliate of the Australian
Orthopaedic Association) recommended that all year 5 to year 7 girls participate in the National Self-Detection
Program for Scoliosis by downloading their Self-Detection Fact Sheet. This fact sheet can be accessed directly
from the Scoliosis Australia homepage at: www.scoliosis-australia .org
We would like to point out that boys can also be afflicted with Scoliosis; however, it is more common in girls.
Should you have any concerns, always consult your family doctor.

A reminder to the school community that The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Beaumaris Primary in Week 9 of this
Term. As with any event that differs from the ‘norm’ at school, there is quite a bit of planning, promotion and making
of themed decorations leading up to the fair.
If you are interested in getting involved in this ‘project’ and helping our Library Officer, Paula Whitehead out, please
drop into the Library (Monday to Thursday) and have a chat with her about how you can help.
Also, during this Term, there will be a lot of ‘class readers’ that need to be covered
with clear contact. If you are available, for even just an hour of your time, please pop
into the Library (Monday to Thursday only). A book covering demonstration will be
provided for you, just in case you have never covered a book before! It is a skill you’ll
love to have and the training is FREE!! FREE cuppa available too!
Reuse, Reduce & Recycle –Donations needed!
Thank you to the McCready family for their donation to our Gardening Club of shade cloth – much
appreciated. We are now asking if anyone has any old hoses and hose fittings that they do not need
anymore. If you do, please drop off in the morning to Ms Skillen in Karda Block.
Saturday 18th

Triple P – Positive Parenting Program
LYINGG By Professor Matt Sanders
Pre-schoolers sometimes mix up reality and fantasy, but we expect that by primary school, children will know the difference between the two. To discourage lying, parents need to explain to their child why lying is wrong and the consequences of lying.
For example, you could briefly and calmly tell your child: “Tania, I feel disappointed when you lie. It makes it hard to believe anything you say. If you keep telling lies you will find that nobody will trust you.”
Give your child opportunities to be honest and praise them for telling the truth. Your positive response will encourage them to repeat their honesty in future. Even when a child admits to telling a lie, praise them first for their honesty, before proceeding with the disciplinary consequences. If your child is finding it hard not to tell lies, you might need to set up a written contract signed by you and your child. This contract should state what you expect your child to do and the rewards and consequences that will follow. If they have lied, the consequences for that behaviour are clearly listed in the contract.
As your child learns to not lie, you will no longer need a written contract as you and your child will have established a more permanent contract of trust.
