It is equally important to have gatherings that provide the opportunity to speak with me and other parents. Here are the dates. DonorsChoose.org is a United States based 501 nonpro9it organization that allows individuals to donate directly to public school classroom projects. Our teachers have posted request for funding through Donors Choose and over the past year have received over $40,000 to purchase things such as PE equipment: Yoga mats, hula hoops, a parachute, bean bags, various sizes of balls, and jump ropes, and Fitbits. They’ve received digital scales, Nutribullet blenders, electronic sound meters to measure volume and pitch of sounds. Hokki Stools (wobble stools for 9idgety kids), equipment to make a classroom bakery and cook healthy meals in the class (Instant Pot, Magic Bullet blender, and utensils to prep food) and more! The Parent Engagement Family of the Week

Committee, Kiran Mehta,

Malia Herndon, and Mimi Nartey,

is very excited to

present our first family of the week!

The Rosenblums

Osprey Family of the Week: The Rosenblum Family

Date: September 24, 2016 The song that best describes The Rosenblums is “Intergalactic”  by  The  Beastie  Boys!     The Rosenblum Family is comprised of Gregg (general manager at Regenix Inc.), Carrie (marketing consultant and part  owner  of  Children’s  Orchard  Manhattan  Beach),  Aiden (3rd grade Pokemon expert), Ella (2nd grade sketch and comic book artist), Grover (rough collie), Chase (goldendoodle),

Zorro (cat), and Salmon and Pradeep (the 2 beta fish). All together, they are the Osprey Family of the Week! The Rosenblum Family loves to read Harry Potter books together, to go camping at El Capitan, and to see shows at the Hollywood Bowl together every year! What are some ways your family has gotten involved with the PVES community? For the past 3 years the entire family has gotten involved in the Haunted House for Boo-fest. The creation of something so fun and scary is right up our alley! The kids like to be in the Haunted House, dress like zombies, and jump out to scare the other kids. Last  year  we  created  a  scary  “Mad  Scientist”  lab  with  all  sorts  of  creatures  and  “things”  floating  in  jars.  We  did many experiments of how to get these things to float in a scary way. We started with colored water but all of the eyeballs floated to the top and the severed fingers sank to the bottom. Then we tried glue, strings, and straws  to  make  it  look  like  the  items  were  “floating”.  We  finally  tried  hair  gel  and  the  results  were  super  creepy  scary! Playa Vista Parent Engagement Group is proud to acknowledge The Rosenblum Family! Thanks for all you do to make our school a  little  more  “Intergalactic!” Would you like to nominate a family for Osprey Family of the Week? If so, please send an email to [email protected] with the name and email address of the family you would like to nominate.

Playa Vista Elementary is bringing back the pumpkin decorating contest to Boofest! Put your creative hats on and start planning your decorated pumpkin now. Tidbits of info about the contest: * Pumpkins are decorated, not carved. No carved entries will be accepted. * Pumpkins that are submitted by children will be voted on by their peers during Boofest. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded at the end of Boofest. All pumpkins will be returned to the children at the end of the event. * Pumpkins submitted by adults will be auctioned off during Boofest in a silent auction. Adults will not get their pumpkins back if a bid is received. This is a fundraiser, so all proceeds go to our school. The more creative, the more money people will bid! * The pumpkins should have a name, e.g., Cool Cat, Superman. The name needs to be submitted prior to Boofest so we can include it on the bid sheets and the pumpkin name tags for the table. If you or your child (or both) want to enter the contest, please email Wendy Donell at [email protected]. Once you enter, further details will be provided regarding drop-off times for pumpkins, etc.
