How was your Easter?

For many of us, having four days off work or school can be a valuable opportunity to

recuperate, spend time on hobbies or with family. There is nothing at all wrong with this, in fact this is a great way to spend time.

And yet, Easter needs to be more than this. For those who place their trust in Jesus, Easter is central not only to the year, but to life itself.

So far this year as we have progressed in our “King and His Kingdom” theme, we have already been confronted with the reality that this world is not as God made it and that its failure to follow God’s pattern has come about because of humanity’s decision to try to dethrone God and put ourselves on the throne instead. This, in a nutshell, is sin, and it tends to define our lives, our thinking, our motives and our actions. We are left worse than helpless. The Bible teaches us that we are effectively “dead in our sins” (Ephesians 2:1).

A dead person is … dead.

They have no energy, thoughts, desires, nor the ability to act.

If a dead person is to be rescued from this state, someone else has to do it all. The Gospel is the great news, the momentous news, that God the Father has instigated the rescue plan to bring His chosen people back to life! It is all His initiative, He sent His son Jesus into this world and this Jesus, fully God and fully man, perfect in every way, willingly went to the cross of Calvary as a sacrifice to pay the penalty of our sins so that we can have life in its fullness: life in the presence of, and in relationship with, our Creator God.

Good Friday focuses our mind on the sacrifice that Jesus made.

Easter Sunday, perhaps better called “Resurrection Sunday”, reminds us that the sacrifice that Jesus made is acceptable and all sufficient.

How was your Easter?

I hope that for each one of you, your Easter was wonderful as it reminded you that because you are trusting in the work of the Lord Jesus Christ, and not your own efforts, your sins are forgiven and real life, eternal life, life in all its fullness, is guaranteed!

CHARIOTS FOR CHARITY NCS Prime Movers Relay For Life 2013 school based fundraiser took place on the basketball court between recess and lunch on Wednesday 27th March. About twenty team members from Stage Three washed twenty staff and school vehicles in return for donations. The weather was hot and humid, so the students relished the chance to cool off in the mist spray of the hoses as they rinsed suds off the just washed cars! Armed with buckets of soapy water and sponges, they worked in teams of four to wash all of the cars. The finished vehicles (and one ‘ride on’ mower!) gleamed in the sunlight. Fairly tired from the morning’s exertions, the team sat down to enjoy a free ice block each, donated from the canteen by Mrs De Blasé. Staff have been very generous and given more than $250 towards the team’s total, which has now just crept over $2000! The teachers and other staff members were so pleased with the cleanliness of their cars, some were heard to say that they had forgotten what colour the paint was supposed to be! Mr Parker’s car seemed to have half of Bolong Road’s dirt and muck caked onto its undercarriage, so he was particularly pleased with the efforts of the team. Much ‘elbow grease’ was used on that one!

Thanks again to the parents of team members who sent in buckets, sponges and chamois cloths. Thanks especially to Mr Hefferan who organised the equipment and smooth transitions of traffic around the area so well. We’re so proud and also humbled by the efforts of this fine group of young people who want to raise funds to help others in our community who are affected by cancer. They are a great example to others around them and are to be congratulated and commended for taking part in this wonderful event as part of RFL 2013.

YEAR 3 EXCURSION TO FITZROY FALLS Last Thursday Year 3 travelled to Fitzroy Falls to learn about Morton National Park and the important environment it helps to protect. We were shown around by three friendly National Park rangers who pointed out lots of interesting features around the park. We were blessed with fine weather and everyone had a safe and enjoyable day. Mr Terlich would especially like to thank the parents who came along, and thanks also to the students in Year 3 for making it a pleasant and enjoyable experience.

Unit 2: Jesus’ Love for Us

Week 10: All the Bible About Jesus (Luke 24:13-49)

Review: Following the events of that first Easter, Jesus taught the disciples that all the Bible was about Him. How does that change the way we read the Bible? How do the events of Easter change the way we live today? Mr Petts, Chaplain
