Fun Fact
• Some Buddhist monks practice sokushinbutsu ("a Buddha in this very body"), which is a type of self-mummification. Between the 12th and early 20th century, monks would eat pine needles, berries, tree bark, resin, and certain herbs to help starve and preserve the body

What is happening in Myanmar?
ANS: Myanmar is a country that is mostly Buddhist. A small group of immigrants, called Rohingya Muslims, lives in Myanmar. A Buddhist group (and the Myanmar government) are persecuting the Rohingya Muslims and forcing them to flee the area. The government claims that they are targeting Rohingya terrorists, but many innocent men, women, and children are affected.
Independent Practice: Choose-Your-Own

Eightfold Path, write a letter to the Myanmar government explaining why Buddhism does or does not support the genocide of Rohingya Muslims
• Use your handout for further instructions
Option 2 • With a partner, use your cell
